Software Developer - Switching Software

Position Summary

We are seeking a Software engineer to join our Switching Software development team. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work on enterprise-grade networking software, learn from experienced engineers, and contribute to products used by businesses worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain switching software components for NETGEAR's managed and unmanaged switch products Implement network protocols including STP, VLAN, LACP, and Layer 2/3 switching features Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code in C/C++ and Python Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware engineers, product managers, and QA teams Participate in code reviews and follow software development best practices Debug and troubleshoot software issues in both development and production environments Contribute to software architecture discussions and design reviews Support integration testing and work closely with QA teams during product development cycles

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field

- 2 - 5 years of Strong programming skills in C/C++ and familiarity with Python

Understanding of computer networks, TCP/IP, and basic networking concepts Knowledge of Linux/Unix operating systems and command-line tools Familiarity with software development lifecycle and version control systems (Git) Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking abilities Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment Eagerness to learn new technologies and adapt to changing requirements

Preferred Qualifications

Coursework or projects involving network programming or embedded systems Understanding of Ethernet, switching, and routing protocols Experience with debugging tools like GDB, Valgrind, or similar Knowledge of software testing methodologies Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development processes Previous internship experience in software development
