Engineer I Robotics

Year    KA, IN, India

Job Description

Job Area:

Autonomy, Innovation, and Research > Robotics

Domain:

Multirotor UAVs

What this Role Offers

Opportunity to work with advanced UAV and robotics technologies under mentorship from senior engineers. Hands-on exposure to real-world flight testing and system integration. Rapid skill development across autonomy, perception, controls, and embedded systems. A collaborative environment with access to cutting-edge tools, simulators, and hardware platforms.

About the Role:

The Engineer I position is designed for recent graduates with foundational knowledge in robotics or control systems for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The role involves supporting the development, integration, and testing of UAV systems under the guidance of senior engineers. Candidates must demonstrate academic or project-level experience with drones or robotics, as well as a strong willingness to learn advanced autonomy and flight systems.

This role requires strong proficiency in low-level flight firmware (ArduPilot and/or PX4), embedded systems, and high-performance onboard autonomy, along with a proven ability to lead sensor fusion, state estimation, navigation, and control systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in the development and integration of UAV subsystems, including navigation, perception, and basic autonomy components. Support firmware configuration, parameter tuning, and flight stack setup on PX4/ArduPilot-based platforms. Contribute to sensor integration tasks involving IMUs, cameras, GPS, radar, and LiDAR. Work with simulation tools (Gazebo, Issac Sim) to test features and validate system performance. Participate in ground and field testing activities, including pre-flight checks, log collection, and troubleshooting. Implement and debug scripts, tools, and small modules in

Python or C++

to support development workflows. Collaborate with cross-functional teams in hardware, avionics, and software for system bring-up and testing. Maintain clear documentation of development activities, test results, and process improvements.

Basic Requirements:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in

Robotics, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, or Computer Science

.

0-1 year of industry experience

(internships, academic projects, or UAV competitions preferred). Exposure to

UAVs, drones, or robotics

, demonstrated through projects, competitions, or research work. Basic understanding of control systems, state estimation, or kinematics. Familiarity with

PX4/ArduPilot

, MAVLink, or drone flight controllers (Pixhawk or similar). Programming knowledge in

Python and/or C++

. Experience working in Linux OS. Hands-on experience with simulation tools (Gazebo, MATLAB, Issac Sim) is a plus. Strong analytical and debugging abilities, with a willingness to learn and grow. Good communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Skills:

Participation in UAV/robotics competitions (e.g., RoboRacer, ROBOCON, ROSCon, SAE Aero, DIY drone building). Experience with ROS/ROS2 or robotics middleware. Basic computer vision exposure (OpenCV, image processing). Experience assembling or tuning multi-rotor or fixed-wing platforms. Familiarity with Git, Linux, and embedded systems. Understanding of sensor fusion concepts (e.g., EKF basics). Experience with Arduino, Nvidia Jetson, STM32, and ESP32.

Additional Considerations for Master's Graduates

Master's candidates may be considered for an enhanced designation or role variant (e.g., Engineer II or Engineer III) based on:Depth of thesis/research experience in robotics, UAV autonomy, perception, or control systems. Demonstrated hands-on work in PX4/ArduPilot, SLAM, sensor fusion, or advanced simulation workflows. Internships or lab experience involving UAV testing, system integration, or computer vision pipelines. Ability to take ownership of specific subsystem modules or small projects early in their tenure. Strong publication or competition track record (IEEE Transactions, International Conferences, RoboRacer, SAE Aero, DRDO/ISRO academic programs, etc.).

Working Hours

Standard working hours are 9:30 AM to 6:30 PM, Monday to Friday. Field-testing activities may require early-morning or extended hours, depending on mission requirements.

Compensation Range

Competitive compensation aligned with industry standards, including performance-based incentives. Exact salary ranges can be customised according to experience.

Benefits

Comprehensive health insurance. Professional development support. * Detachment allowance.
