Job: RC Fixed Wing Aerobatic Pilot
Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced RC fixed-wing pilot to join our team for demonstration flights, testing, and development of high-performance aerobatic aircraft. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating sophisticated remote-controlled fixed-wing aircraft, executing complex aerobatic maneuvers, and providing expert feedback on aircraft performance and handling characteristics. This role requires a pilot with extensive experience in aerobatics, high-speed flight, and the ability to safely push aircraft to their performance limits. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional piloting skills, technical knowledge, and the ability to perform advanced aerobatic maneuvers with aircraft capable of speeds exceeding 20 m/s (72 km/h).
Key Responsibilities
Flight Operations
Operate various RC fixed-wing aircraft models, particularly high-performance aerobatic platforms capable of speeds exceeding 20 m/s
Execute complex aerobatic maneuvers including rolls, loops, knife-edge flight, hovering, harriers, and other maneuvers with precision and consistency
Perform demonstration flights for spectators, potential customers, or media events
Navigate challenging flight conditions while maintaining precise control of aircraft
Conduct pre-flight and post-flight inspections to ensure aircraft are properly configured and airworthy
Technical Duties
Test prototype and experimental aircraft designs to evaluate performance and handling characteristics
Develop flight test parameters and comprehensive flight plans for new aircraft models
Provide detailed technical feedback from a pilot's perspective to aid in aircraft design refinement
Collect and analyze flight data to improve aircraft performance and aerobatic capabilities
Collaborate with engineering teams to resolve technical issues and implement design improvements
Training and Development
Demonstrate advanced flying techniques to less experienced pilots
Set performance goals and develop structured practice routines for skill advancement
Maintain current knowledge of RC aerobatic techniques, technologies, and competition standards
Document best practices for aircraft setup, including control sensitivity settings and aircraft trim
Required Qualifications
Experience
Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience flying RC fixed-wing aircraft, with demonstrated proficiency in aerobatics
Proven track record performing advanced maneuvers such as knife-edge flight, hovering, and complex rolling sequences
Experience with high-performance aircraft capable of speeds exceeding 20 m/s (72 km/h)
Familiarity with a variety of aircraft types, including pattern planes, aerobatic models, and high-speed platforms
Technical Knowledge
Strong understanding of flight dynamics, aircraft mechanisms, and aerodynamic principles
Knowledge of RC equipment including transmitters, receivers, servos, and power systems
Familiarity with rate and expo settings to optimize control response for aerobatic flight
Understanding of weight and balance principles and their impact on aircraft performance
Skills
Exceptional hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness
Ability to maintain visual orientation during complex maneuvers
Quick reaction time and sound judgment when operating aircraft near performance limits
Problem-solving abilities to diagnose and address flight performance issues
Communication skills to effectively explain technical concepts and provide constructive feedback
Desired Attributes
Experience with RC flight simulators for practicing new maneuvers and maintaining proficiency
Experience with aircraft setup and minor repairs
Patience and teaching ability to mentor less experienced pilots
Adaptability to fly different aircraft models with varying flight characteristics
Working Conditions
Outdoor work in various weather conditions (excluding severe weather)
Some travel may be required for demonstrations, competitions, or testing at different locations
Potential for high-stress situations when testing new aircraft or performing challenging maneuvers
May require weekend availability for demonstrations and events
Physical requirements include standing for extended periods and carrying equipment weighing up to 15 kg
The successful candidate will join a team passionate about pushing the boundaries of RC aerobatic flight and will play a key role in advancing the capabilities of high-performance fixed-wing aircraft.
? Note: Candidates will be required to demonstrate their flying abilities during the interview process.
