Job Purpose: The Electrical Foreman is responsible for overseeing the installation, maintenance, and safe operation of all electrical systems and equipment within the mine. This role ensures that all electrical work is conducted in compliance with the Coal Mines Regulation of 2017, maintaining high standards of safety, reliability, and efficiency. The Electrical Foreman coordinates with engineers, technicians, and mine management to implement electrical projects, troubleshoot issues, and ensure continuous power supply to support mining operations.
Responsibilities:
Electrical Foreman - Coal Mining
Installation and Maintenance of Electrical Systems:
Oversee the installation of electrical systems, ensuring compliance with technical specifications and safety standards.
Ensure all installations are properly documented and certified as per regulatory requirements.
Develop and implement a preventive maintenance schedule for all electrical equipment and systems.
Conduct regular inspections to identify and address potential issues before they lead to equipment failure.
Diagnose and repair electrical faults, minimizing downtime and maintaining operational efficiency.
Coordinate with technicians to ensure timely and effective resolution of electrical problems.
Ensuring Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure all electrical work complies with the Coal Mines Regulation of 2017 and other relevant safety standards.
Conduct safety audits and inspections, rectifying any non-compliance issues promptly.
Maintain accurate records of all electrical work, including installations, maintenance, and repairs.
Prepare and submit required reports and documentation to regulatory bodies as mandated.
Training and Certification:
Ensure all electrical personnel are appropriately trained and certified, maintaining high standards of competence and safety.
Supervising Electrical Personnel:
Lead a team of electricians and technicians, providing clear instructions and support to ensure efficient workflow.
Conduct regular team meetings to review work progress, address challenges, and share safety practices.
Monitor and evaluate the performance of electrical staff, providing feedback and training to improve skills and productivity.
Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement within the electrical team.
Develop and manage work schedules for the electrical team, ensuring adequate coverage for all shifts and projects.
Supporting Mine Operations:
Ensure continuous and reliable power supply to all mining operations, coordinating with the power distribution team as necessary.
Implement energy-saving measures to reduce operational costs and enhance sustainability.
Provide electrical expertise and support for mine expansion and development projects, ensuring integration with existing systems.
Collaborate with engineers and project managers to ensure electrical systems meet operational requirements.
Lead the electrical team in responding to emergencies, such as power outages or electrical fires, ensuring quick and effective resolution.
Implementing Technological Advancements:
Identify and implement technological advancements in electrical systems to improve efficiency and safety.
Stay updated on industry trends and best practices, incorporating new technologies into mine operations where applicable.
Oversee the integration of automation and control systems, enhancing the operational efficiency of mining processes.
Ensure all automated systems are properly maintained and operated in compliance with safety standards.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the electrical department, focusing on enhancing system reliability and performance.
