: Coordinator - Medical Gastroenterology / Nursing director
Position Overview
The Endoscopy Technician will assist gastroenterologists in performing a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures. The role demands expertise in technical assistance, patient safety, scope handling, sterilization, emergency preparedness, and compliance with hospital infection control and NABH quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Assist gastroenterologists in performing
upper GI, lower GI, and advanced therapeutic endoscopic procedures
, including:
Gastroscopy
Colonoscopy
ERCP
Manometry
Polypectomy
Haemostasis for GI bleeds
Third space endoscopy procedures (e.g., ESD, POEM)
Prepare and set up all instruments, scopes, and accessories required for procedures.
Manage and maintain endoscopes, including
cleaning, washing, disinfection, sterilization, and safe storage
as per international infection control protocols.
Detect and report critical patient alerts during procedures to anaesthetists and endoscopists.
Coordinate with anaesthetists for patient fitness and anaesthesia support in routine and emergent cases.
Remain available for
emergency endoscopic procedures
as required.
Maintain procedure rooms, ensuring all equipment is in working condition with preventive maintenance and calibration schedules followed.
Ensure strict adherence to
NABH quality and safety standards
for endoscopy.
Maintain accurate records of procedures, instrument usage, and sterilization logs.
Participate in continuing education and training to update knowledge in advanced endoscopic techniques.
Qualification & Experience
Diploma/Degree in OT Technology, Endoscopy Technology, or related healthcare discipline.
5-7 years of independent working experience
in a reputed hospital/endoscopy centre under experienced gastroenterologists.
Sound knowledge of
advanced endoscopy equipment, infection control protocols, and NABH quality parameters
.
Strong ability to anticipate procedural requirements, handle emergencies, and ensure patient safety.
Effective communication skills, teamwork, and professionalism in patient interaction.
