The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is responsible for providing emergency medical care to patients at the scene of an incident and during transport to healthcare facilities. EMTs respond to emergency calls, assess patient conditions, perform necessary medical procedures, and ensure safe transport in accordance with established protocols and medical guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
Respond promptly to emergency calls and requests for medical assistance.
Assess the condition of patients and provide appropriate pre-hospital care.
Perform life-saving procedures such as CPR, wound treatment, airway management, and use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs).
Transport patients safely in an ambulance to hospitals or other medical facilities.
Communicate clearly with dispatchers, patients, family members, and hospital staff.
Maintain accurate and detailed patient care reports and documentation.
Inspect, clean, and maintain emergency medical equipment and vehicles.
Comply with federal, state, and local regulations and protocols.
Participate in training exercises and continuing education programs.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED.
Current EMT certification (EMT-B, EMT-I, or EMT-P depending on position).
Current CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Valid state driver's license with a clean driving record.
Ability to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Physical stamina and ability to lift and carry patients and equipment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate's Degree in Emergency Medical Services or related field.
Prior experience as an EMT in a high-volume EMS system.
Advanced certifications (e.g., ACLS, PALS).
Working Conditions:
Fast-paced and high-stress environment.
Exposure to inclement weather, infectious diseases, and hazardous situations.
May involve long hours of standing, lifting, and driving.
