Job Description

An embryologist is a medical and scientific professional who specializes in reproductive biology, particularly the study and manipulation of embryos. They play a critical role in assisted reproductive technology (ART) procedures such as in vitro fertilization (IVF). Embryologists handle gametes (sperm and eggs), facilitate fertilization, monitor embryo development, and prepare embryos for implantation or cryopreservation.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform all laboratory procedures related to IVF, including: Oocyte (egg) retrieval and identification Sperm preparation and assessment Insemination techniques (IVF and ICSI) Embryo culture and monitoring Embryo grading and selection Embryo grading and selection Embryo transfer and cryopreservation Maintain detailed and accurate records of laboratory procedures and patient data. Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as incubators, microscopes, and cryostorage units. Ensure strict adherence to laboratory protocols, safety standards, and regulatory guidelines (e.g., HFEA, CAP, CLIA). Communicate with patients and provide counseling regarding laboratory procedures when appropriate. Work closely with reproductive endocrinologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in biology, biomedical science, or related field (required). Master's degree or Ph.D. in embryology, reproductive science, or a related field (preferred). Certification from relevant professional bodies (e.g., ESHRE certification, ASCP certification) may be required or preferred. Experience in an embryology or clinical IVF lab setting is highly desirable
