Responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems and components on ships under construction, conversion, or repair. Ensures all electrical work complies with marine standards and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Install, inspect, and test shipboard electrical systems including power distribution, lighting, navigation, fire detection, and communication systems.
Read and interpret electrical blueprints, technical diagrams, and wiring schematics.
Perform cable routing, terminations, and panel board installations.
Conduct continuity tests and insulation resistance tests using multimeters and megohmmeters.
Identify and rectify electrical faults, ensuring compliance with classification society requirements.
Collaborate with engineers, foremen, and other trades during installation and commissioning.
Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe and clean condition.
Follow all shipyard safety standards, including confined space and lockout/tagout procedures.
Qualifications:
ITI / Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent trade certification.
Minimum 2-5 years of relevant experience in shipbuilding or marine electrical work.
Knowledge of marine electrical systems and international marine standards (e.g., IEC, ABS, DNV).
Ability to work at heights, in enclosed spaces, and onboard ships under construction.
Desirable Skills:
Familiarity with PLCs, automation systems, and marine switchgear.
Ability to read and follow technical manuals and engineering drawings.
Strong problem-solving and team collaboration skills.
