The Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems and equipment in ships and shipyard facilities. The role involves wiring, testing, troubleshooting, and ensuring that all electrical work complies with shipbuilding standards and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Install, connect, and maintain electrical wiring, systems, lighting, and equipment on ships.
Read and interpret electrical drawings, circuit diagrams, and technical specifications.
Troubleshoot and repair faults in electrical systems, motors, control panels, and instruments.
Perform routine inspection, testing, and preventive maintenance of shipboard electrical systems.
Assist in commissioning and sea trials of ships by testing electrical systems under operational conditions.
Ensure proper grounding, insulation, and safety compliance during all electrical work.
Collaborate with engineers, fitters, and other technical staff during shipbuilding projects.
Maintain records of electrical work, repairs, and inspections.
Adhere to shipyard safety standards and use proper protective equipment.
Skills and Competencies:
Strong knowledge of electrical systems, circuits, and troubleshooting techniques.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings.
Skilled in using electrical tools, measuring instruments, and testing devices.
Good teamwork, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Awareness of maritime safety regulations and standards.
Qualifications & Experience:
ITI/Diploma in Electrician/Electrical Engineering or equivalent certification.
2-5 years' experience as an Electrician in shipbuilding, marine, or heavy industrial sectors.
Valid electrical license/certification (if required by local regulations).
