Job Description

An electrician installs, maintains, and repairs electrical systems in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. They ensure all electrical work complies with safety standards and local building codes.

Key Responsibilities:

Install, maintain, and repair wiring, control systems, and lighting fixtures. Inspect electrical components, including circuit breakers and transformers. Identify electrical problems using testing devices and diagrams. Read blueprints and technical diagrams to determine wiring layouts. Follow state and local building regulations based on the National Electrical Code (NEC). Test electrical systems to ensure functionality and safety. Respond to service calls and perform electrical troubleshooting. Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and other tradespeople on projects.

Required Skills:

Strong understanding of electrical theory and installation practices. Ability to read technical documents and blueprints. Manual dexterity and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of an electrical apprenticeship or vocational training. Valid electrician's license or certification as required by local laws.

2. Residential Electrician

Focus:

Electrical systems in homes and apartments.

Duties:

Install home wiring, lighting fixtures, and circuit breakers. Repair and upgrade old or faulty residential electrical systems. Install home automation, alarm, and entertainment systems. Troubleshoot residential power issues.

3. Commercial Electrician

Focus:

Electrical systems in office buildings, retail spaces, and other commercial properties.

Duties:

Design and install electrical systems for new construction. Maintain and repair systems to ensure business continuity. Ensure compliance with commercial wiring codes and safety standards. Work with backup generators and other large-scale systems.

4. Industrial Electrician

Focus:

Factories, manufacturing plants, and industrial facilities.

Duties:

Install and maintain high-voltage systems and machinery wiring. Troubleshoot automation control systems, motors, and PLCs. Perform electrical maintenance on heavy equipment. Ensure compliance with strict safety and operational regulations.

5. Maintenance Electrician

Focus:

Preventive and corrective maintenance in any type of facility.

Duties:

Inspect and test existing electrical systems regularly. Perform maintenance to prevent breakdowns and downtime. Keep detailed service and repair records.
