Job Description

An estimation engineer analyzes project plans to calculate the overall cost, including materials, labor, and equipment, to help clients and management make informed decisions. Key responsibilities include preparing detailed cost estimates, developing cost control systems, researching new construction methods and materials, maintaining cost data, and collaborating with project managers and vendors.

Key Responsibilities

Cost Estimation:

Analyze blueprints, specifications, and other project documents to identify and evaluate all relevant cost factors.

Bill of Materials (BOM):

Develop detailed lists and quantities of all raw materials, equipment, and other resources required for a project.

Budget Development:

Prepare and submit detailed budget estimates, progress reports, and cost tracking reports to management for approval.

Cost Control:

Develop and implement cost control systems to monitor project performance and ensure alignment with budget estimates.

Research & Analysis:

Stay current with industry changes by researching new materials, construction methods, and technological advancements in estimating.

Vendor & Subcontractor Relations:

Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to secure accurate pricing and ensure cost-effective solutions.

Collaboration:

Work closely with project managers, architects, designers, and other engineers to understand project scope and provide technical input on cost-related matters.

Reporting:

Present estimates, reports, and cost analysis to management to support decision-making processes and help with bid analysis.

Required Skills

Strong analytical and numerical skills. Proficiency in cost estimation software and MS Excel. Familiarity with engineering drawings and project specifications. Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Attention to detail and strong organizational skills. Understanding of construction methods, materials, and processes.
