1. Position Summary

Shiv Nadar University, Chennai invites applications for the position of

Electrical Engineer

to manage, operate, and maintain the electrical infrastructure of the university campus. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring uninterrupted power supply, statutory compliance, electrical safety, and efficient operation of all electrical systems across academic, residential, and common facilities.

2. Educational Qualification

Bachelor of Engineering (B.E) - Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE)

- Mandatory*

Valid Electrical 'C' License

issued by the competent authority - Mandatory*

3. Experience

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience

in electrical operations and maintenance Experience in

educational institutions, large campuses, IT parks, hospitals, or industrial facilities

is preferred Hands-on exposure to

HT/LT electrical systems

is required

4. Key Roles and Responsibilities

Operate, maintain, and monitor

HT/LT electrical systems

, substations, transformers, DG sets, UPS systems, and power distribution networks Ensure uninterrupted power supply to academic blocks, hostels, laboratories, staff quarters, and common areas Plan and execute

preventive and breakdown maintenance

of electrical equipment and installations Ensure strict compliance with

statutory regulations

, electrical safety standards, and government norms Liaise with

TANGEDCO / Electrical Inspectorate

and external agencies for inspections, approvals, shutdowns, and statutory compliance Maintain electrical documentation including

drawings, load calculations, maintenance records, and compliance reports

Supervise electricians, technicians, and outsourced service providers Monitor energy consumption and implement

energy conservation and efficiency initiatives

Support execution of electrical projects, upgrades, renovations, and new installations Respond promptly to electrical emergencies and ensure corrective actions Conduct periodic

electrical safety audits

and risk assessments Ensure proper

earthing systems, lightning protection, and fire safety compliance

across the campus

5. Skills and Competencies

Strong technical knowledge of

electrical systems, power distribution, and safety standards

Practical experience in

HT/LT panels, substations, transformers, DG synchronization, and UPS systems

Ability to read and interpret

electrical schematics and single-line diagrams

Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills Familiarity with preventive maintenance schedules and statutory documentation Effective communication and team management skills Good reporting and documentation abilities

6. Preferred Attributes

Experience working in a

large institutional or campus environment

Knowledge of

energy management systems and sustainability practices

Proactive, safety-oriented, and detail-focused approach Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities

7. Work Conditions

Full-time position Availability required during emergencies, power shutdowns, or critical maintenance activities
