Job Description

Electrical Engineers are tasked with several key responsibilities that ensure the efficiency and safety of electrical systems. These include:

Designing, developing, and testing electrical equipment and systems, focusing on safety, efficiency, and reliability. Analyzing electrical systems and components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes. Directing and coordinating manufacturing, construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and customer requirements. Performing detailed calculations to establish standards and specifications. Using computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks. Preparing specifications for purchases of electrical equipment and materials. Supervising or training project team members as necessary. Estimating material, labor, or construction costs for budget preparation purposes.

Key Tasks and Duties

In their daily operations, Electrical Engineers undertake a variety of tasks that include:

Inspecting completed installations and observe operations to ensure conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with operational and safety standards. Planning and implementing research methodology and procedures to apply principles of electrical theory to engineering projects. Maintaining electrical equipment. Working with project managers on production efforts to ensure projects are completed satisfactorily, on time, and within budget.

Education and Certification Requirements

To qualify for a position as an Electrical Engineer, candidates must meet specific educational and certification standards:

A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is required.
