The Railway Electrical Engineer is responsible for the planning, design, installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of electrical systems in railway infrastructure. This includes overhead electrification (OHE), traction power systems, substations, signaling power supply, station electricals, and other associated infrastructure. The role requires a strong understanding of electrical engineering principles, safety regulations, and railway systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and implement electrical systems for railway projects including:
Overhead Equipment (OHE) and traction systems (25 kV AC)
Power distribution systems (HT/LT panels, transformers, switchgear)
Electrical systems in stations, depots, and tunnels
Signaling power systems and emergency power backup
Supervise installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical infrastructure.
Conduct site inspections, audits, and ensure adherence to safety and quality standards.
Collaborate with civil, mechanical, and signaling teams to ensure smooth integration of electrical works.
Prepare and review technical drawings, BOQs, and project documentation.
Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards (e.g., RDSO, IEC, IS), and railway safety guidelines.
Liaise with government authorities, vendors, and contractors.
Monitor project timelines and budgets, identifying and resolving technical issues promptly.
Support maintenance teams in troubleshooting electrical failures or outages.
Qualifications & Skills: Education:
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering (B.E./B.Tech)
Master's Degree (preferred but not mandatory)
Experience:
3-10 years of relevant experience in railway/metro/electrical infrastructure projects
Prior experience in Indian Railways, Metro Rail Projects, or Railway Electrification Projects is a strong advantage
Technical Skills:
Knowledge of Railway Electrification Systems (25 kV AC OHE)
Familiarity with SCADA systems, power system protection, and substation design
Proficient in AutoCAD, ETAP, MATLAB, or other electrical engineering software
Strong understanding of project management tools and techniques
Soft Skills:
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
Strong communication and team collaboration abilities
Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
Willingness to work on-site or travel as per project needs
