Technical Skills

Software Expertise:

High proficiency in AutoCAD

for 2D drafting. Direct experience with

AutoCAD Electrical

for schematic and panel design is often required.

Electrical Fundamentals:

Basic to intermediate understanding of

electrical components

, circuits, terminology, and standard electrical symbols.

Blueprint Interpretation:

Proven ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, architectural plans, and technical specifications.

Standards Knowledge:

Familiarity with national and local

electrical codes

(e.g., NEC) and drafting standards (e.g., ASME Y14.5).

3D Skills (Preferred):

Familiarity with 3D modeling software like

Revit

or

Inventor

for BIM coordination.
Education & Experience

Education:

An

Associate's Degree

or

Technical Diploma

in Drafting/CAD, Electrical Technology, or a closely related field.

Experience:

Typically

1-3 years

of professional drafting experience, ideally focused on electrical systems in a relevant industry (e.g., MEP, industrial controls, utilities, or manufacturing).

Certification (Preferred):

Certification from the American Design Drafting Association (ADDA) or an AutoCAD Professional Certification.
Soft Skills

Attention to Detail:

Exceptional focus on precision and accuracy to prevent costly errors in the field.

Communication:

Ability to clearly communicate technical information and discuss drawing modifications with engineers and project managers.

Organization:

Strong organizational skills to manage multiple drawing sets and adhere to strict project deadlines.
