Create detailed electrical drawings, layouts, schematics, and wiring diagrams using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation).
Develop drawings for various electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, grounding, cable routing, and control systems.
Work from red-line markups, sketches, and specifications provided by electrical engineers.
Produce single-line diagrams (SLDs), panel elevation drawings, and interconnection diagrams.
Assist in the creation of mechanical detail drawings related to electrical installations.
Documentation and Compliance:
Ensure all drawings and designs adhere to industry standards, electrical codes (e.g., NEC), and company drafting standards.
Review and revise existing drawings to reflect changes in project scope or as-built conditions.
Maintain and update project documentation, including drawing databases and document control systems.
Prepare Bills of Materials (BOM) based on the drawings.
Collaboration and Coordination:
Collaborate closely with electrical engineers, architects, project managers, and other disciplines (e.g., mechanical, civil) to ensure designs are coordinated and meet project specifications.
Participate in project meetings to discuss design modifications and provide input on drafting-related matters.
Conduct site visits as needed to gather information, verify measurements, and provide technical support during installation.
Key Skills and Qualifications
Education:
A diploma or associate degree in electrical drafting, electrical engineering, or a related field.
Experience:
A minimum of 2 years of proven experience in electrical drafting, preferably within a specific industry such as building services, power, oil & gas, or manufacturing.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in CAD software, particularly AutoCAD. Knowledge of other software like Revit, MicroStation, or SolidWorks is often a plus.
Basic to intermediate understanding of electrical design principles, circuits, and components.
Ability to read and interpret technical specifications, blueprints, and electrical codes.
Knowledge of creating electrical schematics, layouts, and wiring diagrams.
