The EHS Officer is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and continually improving Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) systems across the integrated steel plant to ensure statutory compliance, safe working conditions, environmental protection, and sustainable operations.
Key ResponsibilitiesEnvironment Management
Ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations including
Air Act, Water Act, Environment Protection Act
, and conditions stipulated by
MoEF&CC / SPCB
.
Monitor air emissions, effluents, solid & hazardous waste management, and ensure proper treatment and disposal.
Coordinate operation and compliance of pollution control systems such as
ETP, STP, APCDs, bag filters, ESPs
etc.
Prepare and submit environmental statements, compliance reports, and returns to statutory authorities.
Support implementation of ESG initiatives, resource conservation, and sustainability programs.
Health & Occupational Safety
Implement occupational health and industrial safety standards across all plant operations (coke ovens, blast furnace, steel melting shop, rolling mills, power plant, etc.).
Conduct hazard identification and risk assessment (HIRA) and ensure implementation of control measures.
Monitor use of PPEs, work permits, confined space entry, work at height, hot work, and contractor safety.
Coordinate occupational health surveillance, medical check-ups, and industrial hygiene monitoring.
Safety Systems & Audits
Develop, implement, and maintain EHS policies, SOPs, and safe work procedures.
Conduct internal EHS audits, inspections, and safety observations; track corrective and preventive actions.
Coordinate statutory safety inspections and third-party audits.
Maintain records of accidents, near misses, dangerous occurrences, and compliance actions.
Training & Awareness
Conduct EHS inductions, toolbox talks, safety trainings, and mock drills for employees and contractors.
Promote safety culture through awareness programs, campaigns, and behavioral safety initiatives.
Incident Management & Emergency Response
Investigate accidents and incidents; perform root cause analysis and recommend corrective actions.
Support development and implementation of
On-site and Off-site Emergency Management Plans
.
Coordinate emergency preparedness drills including fire, gas leaks, chemical spills, and major accidents.
Qualifications & Experience
Degree in
Engineering / Science
with
Diploma or Degree in Industrial Safety
from a recognized institute.
Certification as
Safety Officer
as per
Factories Act
(mandatory).
5-10 years of relevant EHS experience in
integrated steel plants, power plants, heavy engineering, or large manufacturing industries
.
Knowledge of ISO standards such as
ISO 14001, ISO 45001
is preferred.
