The Duty Medical Officer (DMO) is responsible for providing round-the-clock medical supervision, ensuring the delivery of quality patient care, managing emergencies, and assisting consultants in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. The DMO acts as the first point of contact for all patients admitted to wards, ICUs, and emergency departments during their duty hours.
Key Responsibilities:Patient Care:
Conduct initial assessment and documentation of new admissions and emergency cases.
Monitor patient condition regularly and maintain updated medical records.
Administer prescribed medications, treatments, and procedures as per consultant instructions.
Assist consultants during rounds and in emergency procedures.
Ensure proper handover of patient information between shifts.
Respond promptly to medical emergencies (e.g., cardiac arrest, trauma, etc.) and initiate resuscitation protocols.
Emergency Management:
Attend all emergency calls within the hospital (ER, wards, ICU, OT).
Stabilize patients and coordinate with specialists for further management.
Maintain emergency equipment and ensure readiness of crash carts.
Coordination and Communication:
Liaise with nursing staff, laboratory, and other support departments to ensure seamless patient care.
Communicate effectively with patient families regarding condition updates as per hospital policy.
Escalate critical cases to senior consultants or the medical superintendent when needed.
Administrative Duties:
Maintain accurate patient case sheets and treatment records.
Ensure timely documentation of medico-legal cases (MLCs) and coordinate with authorities when required.
Participate in infection control, clinical audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
Support hospital policies on ethics, confidentiality, and patient safety.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education:
MBBS from a recognized institution (mandatory).
Registration:
Valid registration with the Medical Council of India or State Medical Council.
Experience:
0-3 years (fresh graduates may be considered; prior hospital experience preferred).
Skills:
Strong clinical judgment and emergency handling skills.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Ability to work in rotational shifts and under pressure.
