The Deputy Medical Officer is a key member of the hospital's medical administration team. This role involves assisting the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) or Medical Superintendent in the overall management of clinical services. The DMO will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient functioning of all medical departments, with a specific focus on the Nephrology and multispeciality units.
Roles and Responsibilities:
The DMO's responsibilities are multifaceted and include, but are not limited to:
1. Clinical and Patient Care Management:
Medical Oversight:
Providing clinical assessment and initial management for patients in the hospital, particularly those presenting in the emergency ward or those newly admitted.
Nephrology Focus:
Working in close coordination with Nephrology consultants. This includes:
Taking detailed histories and conducting physical examinations of patients with kidney-related issues.
Assessing patients for dialysis, pre-transplant workups, and post-transplant care.
Interpreting investigation reports related to general medicine and nephrology.
Managing medical emergencies, including the safe use of drugs in patients with chronic kidney disease.
Multispeciality Coordination:
Coordinating with other departments (e.g., surgery, cardiology, internal medicine) to ensure a holistic approach to patient care, especially for patients with complex conditions.
Skills:
Strong clinical and diagnostic skills, excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, effective decision-making under pressure, and proficiency in using medical software and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
