(JD):



The

Duty Medical Officer (DMO)

is responsible for providing round-the-clock medical supervision, attending to emergency cases, monitoring in-patients, and supporting consultants in delivering effective healthcare services within the hospital.

Rules / Key Protocols:



Punctuality:

Must report on time and be available throughout the assigned shift (day/night).

Patient Confidentiality:

Maintain strict confidentiality of all patient information.

Documentation:

Complete and sign all patient records, progress notes, and discharge summaries accurately.

Emergency Response:

Must be present and ready to handle emergencies as per hospital protocol.

Coordination:

Follow directions from consultants, nursing supervisors, and management.

Code of Conduct:

Adhere to hospital policies, NABH standards, and ethical practices.

Shift Handover:

Provide a detailed handover to the next duty officer during shift change.

Infection Control:

Follow infection control and biomedical waste management rules.

Attendance:

Ensure attendance in CMEs (Continuing Medical Education) and skill-upgradation programs.

Incident Reporting:

Report any unusual incidents, patient deterioration, or medico-legal cases immediately.

Roles & Responsibilities :Patient Care:



Attend to all emergency and OP/IP patients promptly. Perform initial assessment and stabilize critical patients. Monitor patient vitals and clinical progress during duty hours. Ensure timely administration of medications and treatments. Assist consultants and specialists during ward rounds and procedures.

Emergency Handling:



Handle medical/surgical/cardiac emergencies until the specialist arrives. Perform CPR, intubation, IV access, and other emergency procedures when required. Maintain emergency trolley and ensure all life-saving drugs/equipment are functional.

Clinical Documentation:



Maintain accurate patient case sheets and treatment charts. Update progress notes and inform consultants about critical changes. Prepare discharge summaries and transfer notes.

Coordination:



Communicate effectively with nursing staff, lab, radiology, and pharmacy departments. Ensure smooth patient transfers between departments (ER ? ICU ? Ward). Coordinate with administrative and HR teams for medico-legal documentation if needed.

Compliance & Quality:



Follow hospital protocols, NABH standards, and clinical policies. Participate in audits and clinical quality improvement activities. Report any medical errors or near-misses immediately.
