The Duty Doctor is responsible for providing round-the-clock medical care, attending to patients, monitoring their condition, and supporting senior consultants and specialists. The role ensures continuity of medical services, patient safety, and effective clinical management in the hospital.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
Attend to OPD/IPD patients and emergencies.
Record patient history, perform clinical examinations, and prescribe treatment as per hospital protocols.
Monitor admitted patients regularly and update case sheets.
Provide immediate care during medical emergencies.
Coordination & Support
Assist senior consultants and specialists in patient management.
Coordinate with nursing staff, paramedical staff, and other departments for smooth patient care.
Ensure proper handover of patients during shift changes.
Medical Documentation
Maintain accurate and timely medical records.
Write progress notes, discharge summaries, and referrals.
Ensure compliance with hospital documentation standards.
Emergency Management
Handle trauma, cardiac arrest, poisoning, and other critical emergencies.
Perform basic life support (BLS) and advanced life support (ALS) if required.
Ensure availability and readiness of emergency equipment and medicines.
Clinical Governance
Follow hospital policies, protocols, and infection control guidelines.
Report critical cases to senior doctors immediately.
Participate in medical audits, CME programs, and training sessions.
