We are seeking a detail-oriented Design Drafter to bridge the gap between creative concepts and manufacturing reality. You will be responsible for transforming design renders into precise technical drawings. The ideal candidate possesses a deep "maker" DNA--someone who understands the nuances of wood joinery, the tolerances of metal fabrication, and how to optimize both within SolidWorks.
Key Responsibilities
3D Modeling:
Create complex, parametric 3D models of high-end furniture using SolidWorks.
Technical Documentation:
Generate comprehensive shop drawings, including plan views, sections, details, and exploded assemblies for the production team.
Material Integration:
Design solutions that seamlessly integrate wood, veneer, and solid timber with steel, aluminium, or brass components.
BOM Management:
Develop accurate Bills of Materials (BOM) and cut lists to streamline procurement and minimize waste.
Prototyping Support:
Collaborate with the shop floor to troubleshoot fabrication issues and refine designs based on physical prototypes.
Hardware Specification:
Research and integrate functional hardware (hinges, slides, fasteners) into the digital model to ensure perfect fitment.
Finding a drafter who understands both the "art" of woodworking and the "science" of metal fabrication is a tall order. You aren't just looking for a CAD operator; you're looking for a
Technical Designer
who understands how materials actually behave on the shop floor.
Here is a comprehensive job description tailored to that specific hybrid skill set.
