Technology-led Education Interventions for Visually Impaired Children Applications are invited for ONE position of Research Fellow on a project titled \' Technology-led Education Interventions for Visually Impaired Children \' to work with Dr. Dipanjan Chakraborty and Prof. Shilpaa Anand. The successful candidate would be required to undertake research, which includes reading research papers, ideating, user studies, prototyping, testing, deploying and evaluating This project aims to build for and with blind school children. We want to examine what forms of voice interfaces, carrying educational content, leads to different learning outcomes. Consequently the project requires a multidisciplinary outlook while being situated within the discipline of Computer Engineering. We are partnering with a few leading research labs and educational institutes in India for this project Essential Qualifications: ME / MTech or equivalent in Computer Engineering, IT or allied areas with a minimum aggregate score of 60% or equivalent Excellent engineering skills (ability to quickly code up prototype systems, scripts, etc.) Familiarity and experience of working with REST APIs and familiarity and experience with at least one full stack development paradigm Empathy and good people skills along with an interest in human rights and social justice matters Curiosity about how the world works and how to make it better Desirable Qualifications: Experience of working in cross-disciplinary projects Experience of working in voice interfaces and with conversational systems like Alexa, Siri, Google Assistant, etc. Experience of working with children Experience of working with disabled users Experience of conducting user studies and familiarity with quantitative, qualitative and mixed research methods Familiarity with Human-Centred Design Methods Oral communication in Indian languages like Telugu, Hindi and/or Kannada Fellowship: 37,000 - 42,000 per month (based on the year of PhD and performance) Place of work: BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus, Hyderabad, Telangana, India Benefits : The successful candidate will be able to work with some of the best academic colleagues in India on a complex real-world problem, thus leaving an impact. The university campus is located in Hyderabad but at the same time is away from the city crowds and free from other urban problems like pollution, water-logging and traffic. The candidate will also be entitled to a contingency grant of INR 20,000 per year to cover research and academic expenses.
