Plan and oversee all docking operations: docking, undocking, shifting, berthing & unberthing of vessels safely and efficiently.
Prepare docking plans including alignment of keel blocks, side blocks, and ensuring the structural integrity of dock infrastructure.
Coordinate with ship captains, tug operators, marine pilots, port agencies, engineering teams, and other departments.
Inspect dock equipment, fenders, mooring lines, dock gates, dry docks, cranes, and other related infrastructure for safety and readiness.
Supervise flooding / dewatering operations in dry dock / wet dock; ensure proper functioning of pumps and valves.
Monitor and ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental rules, and port authority / maritime authority guidelines.
Conduct risk assessments, oversee emergency procedures and drills related to docking operations.
Maintain accurate reports / logs of dock usage, vessel movements, maintenance activities, incidents.
Manage a team of dock workers / dock attendants; ensure training, supervision, and proper staffing of shifts.
Qualifications & Skills
Educational qualification: Diploma or Degree in Marine Engineering / Naval Architecture / Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent preferable).
Certificate(s) of competency: e.g. Master of Foreign Going Ships / relevant certifications in ship handling, docking, pilotage (if applicable).
Minimum
5 years of relevant experience
in marine/port/shipyard operations, particularly in docking / dry dock management.
Strong knowledge of vessel types, docking / undocking procedures, maintenance of dock infrastructure.
Good understanding of marine safety, environmental regulations (ISM, SOLAS, MARPOL etc.)
Excellent leadership, communication, coordination skills; ability to work with diverse teams.
Ability to work under pressure, in varying weather conditions, possibly on shifts.
Decision-making skills, attention to detail.
Working Conditions
On-site work at dock / dry dock / port facilities; exposure to marine environment, heavy machinery.
Often involves coordination round the clock (depending on operations), occasional shifts or emergency work.
Physical inspection duties; possibly supervising boarding / mooring.
