An Optician assists patients in selecting, fitting, and adjusting eyewear according to prescriptions provided by optometrists or ophthalmologists. They ensure that patients receive high-quality vision care products and exceptional customer service.
Key Responsibilities
Interpret and analyze prescriptions from optometrists and ophthalmologists.
Advise patients on suitable frames, lenses, and lens coatings based on prescription strength, lifestyle, and facial features.
Take accurate facial and frame measurements for proper lens fitting.
Order, verify, and dispense prescription glasses, sunglasses, and contact lenses.
Adjust, repair, and maintain eyewear to ensure a comfortable fit and correct vision alignment.
Educate patients on proper eyewear care and lens maintenance.
Maintain patient records, sales transactions, and inventory of eyewear products.
Ensure compliance with health and safety standards and optical regulations.
Stay updated with new eyewear technologies, fashion trends, and lens materials.
Skills & Qualifications
Diploma or degree in Optical Dispensing or a related field.
Registration with a recognized optical body (where applicable).
Strong knowledge of optical products, lenses, and frame materials.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Attention to detail and precision in measurements.
Basic sales and computer skills (e.g., POS systems, patient databases).
Work Environment
Opticians typically work in optical stores, optometry clinics, or healthcare centers. The role may require weekend or evening shifts depending on business hours.
