Job Purpose:
The current role encompasses three primary responsibilities:

  • Leading a molecule from all its quantitative strategy perspectives.
  • Leading a group of statisticians, aligning with a specific disease area/research unit.
  • Being part of suitable global and India-level leadership teams (LT), contributing to and driving organizational strategies
Role expectations:
Statistical Expertise and Accountability:
  • Ensure high-quality statistical input across the design, execution, and interpretation of all statistical components in Medicine development at the molecule level.
  • Partner closely with cross-functional Project Team counterparts to ensure the delivery of project milestones within agreed standards of quality, timelines, and budgets.
  • Ensure adherence to compliance expectations and regulatory requirements.
Technical Excellence:
  • Demonstrate strong expertise across a broad range of statistical methodologies, including established techniques and emerging/next-generation approaches.
  • Apply optimal statistical and trial design methodologies to projects while maintaining awareness of methodologies used by other quantitative groups, such as Pharmacology and Epidemiology teams.
  • Commit to continuous learning and self-development aligned with organizational goals, including targeted plans to address capability needs.
  • Develop expertise beyond statistics by engaging with medical and epidemiological literature, as well as regulatory documents.
Science and Strategic Collaboration:
  • Collaborate with project and asset teams to optimize development strategies by leveraging diverse data sources (both internal and external).
  • Exhibit strong disease knowledge and competitor intelligence to drive data-driven decisions and solutions across a wide range of drug development challenges.
Innovation and Problem Solving:
  • Champion innovation in evidence generation and clinical trial design, driving optionality and informed decision-making through state-of-the-art statistical methods.
  • Contribute to problem-solving by applying advanced statistical approaches, fostering innovation in the use of data across development programs.
Communication and Influencing:
  • Represent Biostatistics effectively in interactions with cross-functional team members, regulatory bodies, and Governance Boards.
  • Communicate complex statistical concepts in an accessible and understandable way for non-statisticians.
  • Build and manage strong networks and relationships with key stakeholders to proactively influence project outcomes.
Leadership and People Development:
  • Act as an effective leader in both business line and matrix roles, contributing to the development of Biostatistics talent and capabilities.
  • Serve as a role model for GSK values and expectations, supporting the communication and rollout of organizational and business changes.
  • Share best practices across the global community of statisticians.
  • As a First Line Leader (FLL), set clear objectives and priorities, actively engage in development and performance goal-setting, and focus on building the capabilities of team members
Qualifications:
Educational Background:
  • A PhD or Master's degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Advanced training in statistical methodologies, clinical trial design, or data science is preferred.
Technical Expertise:
  • Solid foundation in statistical methodologies, including both traditional and modern approaches (e.g., Bayesian methods, causal inference, machine learning, synthetic covariates, and hybrid trial designs).
  • Proficiency in statistical programming environments such as R.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory guidelines, compliance expectations, and statistical requirements in drug development.
Domain Knowledge:
  • Strong understanding of the drug development lifecycle, including clinical trial phases, regulatory submissions, and post-market evidence generation.
  • Awareness of methodologies used by other quantitative groups (e.g., Pharmacology, Epidemiology).
Experience:
Statistical Leadership:
  • 10-15 years of experience in biostatistics within the pharmaceutical, or healthcare industry, with a demonstrated ability to lead statistical strategy at the molecule or asset level.
  • Proven track record of successfully partnering with cross-functional teams (e.g., Clinical, Programming, Regulatory Affairs) to deliver project milestones within agreed timelines.
Strategic Contributions:
  • Experience in optimizing development strategies through innovative trial designs and leveraging data from diverse internal and external sources.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive data-driven decisions across a wide range of drug/vaccine development challenges.
Innovation and Problem Solving:
  • Hands-on experience applying novel statistical methods in clinical trial design, evidence generation, and data analysis.
  • Ability to drive innovation and implement next-generation statistical techniques (e.g., AI/ML, big data analytics, in silico modeling) within development programs.
Regulatory Expertise:
  • Experience supporting regulatory interactions, including preparation of submissions, addressing statistical queries, and representing Biostatistics in regulatory meetings.
Leadership and Collaboration:
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor statisticians and cross-functional team members, experience in managing matrixed teams and working effectively in a global, cross-functional environment.
Communication Skills:
  • Proven ability to communicate complex statistical concepts in a clear and accessible way to non-statisticians, including senior stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
  • Strong influencing skills and the ability to build and maintain critical relationships with stakeholders across functional groups.
Continuous Learning:
  • A self-motivated mindset with a track record of engaging in continuous learning and self-development, including staying current with advancements in statistical methodologies and technologies.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think strategically under pressure.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
