Director, Software Development Engineering
Introduction to team
We are the Distribution and Supply team at Expedia. We own Pricing, Inventory, Reservation and Offers. We delight our Travellers with great prices for any travel (hotel, vacation rental, air, cars, packages and cruises), and support them to reserve and manage their experience. We own the unified technical systems that perform these functions, and handle trillions of events that deliver this value at Expedias global scale. This role leads Pricing for our Traffic Management, Orchestration, and Insights. The role will report into our Senior Director, Pricing and Offers.
In this role, you will:
Lead the vision and creation of Pricing for our Travellers
Deliver new business value through key pricing features, heuristics and machine learning models
Unify and expand the technical stack between Expedias product lines, serving all our Travellers from a single set of data and services
Own our Data and Machine Learning strategy, ensuring that systems make automated decisions that for our Travellers, removing risk from our business
Mentor and coach our new engineering team in India, helping them establish the architecture direction, quality approach, and implementation guidelines
Partner across multiple business and technical teams (partner technology, media, finance, etc.) to define priorities for our company, and help distill them into 1-3 year programs for your space
Own the operations of the team for our Tier 1/2/3 systems, including programs to deprecate and refactor to advance our ability to serve Travellers
An innovator with proven experience in developing new ideas in favor of your customers, with the ability to drive them to completion through a mix of personal effort, team effort and influence
A communicator of complex business and technical concepts, to any stakeholder, with clarity and precision
Experience and qualifications:
Bachelors degree or masters in a related Technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience.
Equivalent experience includes: Managed people managers and executing capacity planning/allocation for a team size of 30+.
A people manager with experience in building and scaling teams, products and technology.
A leader with a customer-focused mindset, able to think first of customers, and to use different perspectives (product features, technology, code, quality, operations, data, analytics and ML) to solve for their needs.
A mentor of leaders, managers, and senior engineers, with 5+ years experience helping technical people develop, with proven business results obtained from career influence.
A quality-minded person, able to inspire others to define and improve code and operational quality
A communicator of complex business and technical concepts, to any stakeholder, with clarify and precision.
