Position Summary



The position requires an understanding of SEC/GAAP/STAT reporting and period-ending reporting processes and procedures. This individual must work closely with other reporting teams and the technical accounting group. The position is responsible for the successful support of and interaction with, each line of business controller, legal departments, investor relations and all functional areas providing financial data. The position is responsible for coordination and effective interaction with the internal and external auditors. This is critical when meeting the internal and external reporting requirements and deadlines. The focus of this position is to manage various aspects of financial reporting for the Investment Reporting team

Job Responsibilities


  • Oversee, monitor, & develop and assist in preparation of monthly, quarterly, & annual reporting for a several invested asset classes and investment vehicles (securities, mortgage loans, real estate and investment subsidiaries).
  • Responsible for overseeing the accurate & timely external and internal reporting, subsidiary accounting and NAIC STAT reporting. Scope of accounting basis & reporting includes SEC (public companies), GAAP (non public companies), and STAT. This includes responsibility for the establishment, implementation and oversight of effective and efficient accounting policies, procedures and systems, which assure the integrity of recording financial transactions properly, the accuracy of reported financial information presented and the proper safeguarding of company assets. The position will manage several associates.
  • Oversee, monitor, & develop proper monthly, quarterly, & annual reporting. Reporting includes quarterly footnote and MD&A disclosures for SEC filings and annual footnotes.
  • Lead Team of 60+ associates, ensure personnel management, performance management, handle escalation and supervise multiple finance processes
  • Work closely with Portfolio Managers and other departments across Enterprise to obtain inputs
  • Analyze data and process flows to improve accuracy.
  • Define and build out new processes and perform project testing on forecasted Investment Assets.
  • Ad-hoc requests. Analyze and implement process improvements
  • Lead process improvement efforts ranging from new IT systems, to better intra-department coordination to improving the efficiency of work paper preparation.
  • Ensure that all subordinates have the resources necessary to accomplish their assigned work. Evaluate each employee?s training needs, work-load, mentoring needs to optimize output and employee growth.
  • Coordinate and resolve on-going ad hoc requests and projects. Oversee day to day operations of the group which including managing staff as well as overseeing responsibilities
  • Recommend and implement process improvements.
  • Interaction with various levels of management across different departments within the organization.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



Education

  • CA, CPA,


Experience

  • 12+ years of experience in Finance/Accounting/Investments background.


Knowledge and skills
(general and technical)

  • Extensive knowledge of financial statement preparation and disclosures.
  • Knowledge of US GAAP & US STAT accounting.
  • Experience in financial services accounting/reporting preferred.
  • Requires a high degree of professionalism, sound judgment and discretion in communications with internal and external parties.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, solve problems and ability to meet deadlines are required.
  • Must be able to work with multiple departments in the compilation of data and the reporting of financial information.
  • Candidate must have strong oral and written communication, analytical and interpersonal skills and be able to interact in an effective manner with all levels of personnel.
  • Candidate should possess strong facilitation skills with the ability to effectively communicate and build professional working relationships with senior management, line of business and functional area representatives and associates.
