Indus Action is a "do-tank" to bridge the gap between law and action with social justice at the center of our mission. Indus Action works towards securing a social protection safety net for vulnerable families by providing sustainable access to a portfolio of welfare entitlements and rights (POWER). Our approach tackles multiple deprivations experienced by vulnerable families. It provides educational access to children, maternity entitlements to pregnant and lactating mothers, income and social security support to parents and senior citizens and universal healthcare to all family members to irreversibly move vulnerable families out of poverty. Our teams are located in Delhi, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Orissa, Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu.

Position Summary

We're looking for a Director of Technology who brings a rare blend of strategic depth and hands-on capability. You will drive the end-to-end technology and product vision, while also rolling up your sleeves to ensure high-quality execution across all digital touchpoints. This is a builder's role - perfect for someone who thrives in high-growth environments, can architect scalable platforms, and leads teams by example. You'll own engineering and product functions, ensuring alignment with the company's ambitious growth plans.

Role and Responsibilities (including KRAs)

Define and own the engineering and product vision, ensuring alignment with business objectives and market opportunities Architect and scale consumer-facing web & mobile applications Lead and mentor teams across product management, design, UX, and engineering Execute a robust and agile product roadmap, ensuring rapid iteration and market responsiveness Implement best-in-class software development practices, CI/CD pipelines, and platform security measures Drive data architecture, analytics, and platform scalability Build a high-performance tech culture, focusing on both innovation and operational excellence Work closely with cross-functional teams (Government Relations, Operations, Fund Raising) to drive product market fit Stay on top of emerging technologies, industry trends, and competitor strategies Partner with the CEO and leadership on strategic initiatives, bringing a tech-product lens to business decisions

Requirements

Knowledge and Technical Skills

Ability to steer technology functions aligned with Indus Action's mission Experience in designing, building, and scaling digital tools that expand access to welfare entitlements across diverse geographies Expertise in building secure, interoperable systems that integrate data across multiple platforms and departments Skilled in identifying inefficiencies and implementing tech-driven solutions to improve service delivery and beneficiary outcomes Competence in building frameworks for ethical data use and analysis to inform decision-making and policy engagement Familiarity with designing intuitive user experiences for marginalized populations with varied access and digital literacy Deep understanding of building scalable tech infrastructure suitable for high-volume, public-facing platforms in low-resource settings Strong background in cloud infrastructure, microservices, DevOps, and agile product development Expertise in leading product strategy, UX design processes, and engineering execution Hands-on approach to leadership - a strategic thinker who is not afraid to dive deep into tech & product details

Education and Experience

15+ years of progressive experience in technology and product leadership roles Proven experience in building and scaling building and scaling digital platforms aimed at social impact Demonstrated success in strategic planning, cross-functional leadership, and stakeholder engagement at national or state levels Experience mentoring high-performing technical teams while fostering inclusive, values-aligned growth environments
