I. Job Purpose:



Provides strategic leadership for Human Resources functions across multiple university locations, working closely with senior leadership to implement HR policies, procedures, and project initiatives. Offers strategic guidance to support university goals while delivering effective operational HR services to Deans and Directors.

II. Budgetary Accountability:



Manages the university's staff housing and accommodation services while overseeing the University department's budget, ensuring funds are efficiently used within annual allocation limits.

III. Leadership Accountability:



Apart from reporting to VC and Pro-C, this position also has the leadership accountability to co-ordinate with Campus Directors / Deans.

IV. Key Result Accountabilities:



Strategic Leadership & Policy Management


Design, develop, update and implement HR policies approved by Board/Executive Council (EC).

Build programs supporting university's position as leading educational institution.

Coordinate with Campus Directors/Deans for effective HR operations.

The Director has a vital role to play in building people policies and programs that contribute to the success of the University as the leading engineering, social science and Management institution and "best employer" in India.

Compliance & Governance



Ensure compliance with statutory laws, UGC policy guidelines, and government directions on matters affecting staffs.

Talent Management & Development


Lead workforce planning, job design, and organizational structure development based on the strategic management plan approved by the Board/EC. The plan should have forecast/budget on faculty and non-faculty cost in a prudent manner.

Direct career development for Management / Academic Trainees / Teaching Assistants appointed by the Board.

Must use resources allocated, prepare and plan Training Need Analysis (TNA) by collaborating with Deans and Directors and facilitate mentoring.

Employment contract management: Ensure offer of employment as per policy applicable to private university internal process norms stipulated in the policy.

Talent Acquisition


Prepare recruitment plan in consultation with Deans / Academic Heads / Department Heads and get it approved by the EC.

Drive recruitment initiatives, including 10% faculty as Professor of Practice.

Manage 45-day recruitment cycle through multiple channels for identifying talent in right time.

Compensation & Benefits


Ensure competitive and equitable salary administration, at par with industry.

Manage departmental budget and staff housing services.

Develop retention strategies and reward programs for top performers.

Ensure reserves to meet employee liabilities as per policy.

Control expense management and efficient pay roll output.

Performance Management


Oversee performance management systems for faculty and non-faculty.

Ensure performance management is based on the KPIs and Score card matrix applicable to Deans/Directors/VC.

This position requires a solid understanding of university governance principles and practices, latest University Grand Commission (UGC) guidelines on recruitments, promotions from one Academic Level/Grade Pay to another as per the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) under the Regulations on minimum qualifications for appointment, and able to evaluate the performance of Teaching and other Academic Staffs as per Academic Performance Indicators (API) based on Performance Based Appraisal System (PBAS).

Employee Retention & Reward


Develop short term incentives and ad hoc rewards for top performers.

Organizational Development & Effectiveness


Assist the department that works for

NAAC, NIRF, ABET, ASCCB, QS Ranking and Excellence.



Digitalize entire HR operations and maintain information systems

Strengthen university branding for admissions and placements.

Manage employee relations with zero-conflict approach and follow grievance procedures as per policy.

Participate in government nominated awards and recognition events.

Shared Responsibility: Work together with Placement Head. Improve Campus interview and sourcing capability for jobs. Branding the University nationwide to strengthen admission and placement opportunities.

V. Degree of Independence/ Complexity of Environment



Works extensively with ambiguity and with highly charged, critical issues and situations. Must be able to navigate at any level and through complex, potentially conflict- ridden issues.

The University will operate on multi-campus sites which require high levels of management and communication co-ordination.

This is a key post within administration at the University. The incumbent must respond effectively, recommending solutions to issues which arise from differing expectations of management and employees.

The Director must lead in the building of contemporary HR & OD knowledge, theory and methods and its implementation at the University.

VI. Working Relationship



Collaborates with senior management (Chairman, Chancellor, VC, Pro Chancellor, other Board members and trust office bearers.) to ensure that HR plans are aligned with university objectives.

Participates in key committees and initiatives: Budget Advisory Committee; Staff Relations Committee; etc.

Liaises with MHE/UGC officials and also HR community executives from other universities.

Interacts extensively with others to educate, influence, and build awareness of key issues and propose solutions.

Influences and negotiates with stakeholders at all levels for the benefit of the university.

VII. Education & Experience Required



Master's degree in human resource management, Business Management or related field from an accredited college or university or an equivalent combination of educations, skills and experience.

At least 15 years strong Human Resource Management experience, of which 5 years will be in a senior leadership role. Experience in a university or other higher educational organization or similar complex environment is preferred. Or any exceptional graduate from IIM or XLRI or TISS who has the caliber to handle this role, the experience can be relaxed.

Experience in the implementation of human resource "best practices" including developing programs and strategies in recruitment and retention, reward management, education and development, advancement of minority groups, and organizational effectiveness is preferred.

Experience leading and influencing human resource policy formulation and implementation necessary.

Knowledge of employment practices and laws is preferred.

International work experience would be of great value.

Experience in the evaluation and implementation of HRIS, HRMS and/or other integrated management systems is preferred.

Experience in a multi-cultural and multi-national or diversity working environment.

Spoken skill of Hindi language is preferred.
