Essential Duties, Critical Success Factors, Responsibilities, Authorities and Required Interactions:

The Director Finance India is in charge and responsible for all finance, accounting, compliance, statutory, tax, fp&a and business control matters in India.

As a strong matrix leader and most senior Finance associate in India, he/she has the oversight of general accounting, reporting compliance, business controlling and, in general, all local Finance matters.

In collaboration with regionally organized functional units of EMEAI Finance Operations / Shared Services, Regional Controlling, regional Tax and Compliance, regional FP&A and Business Controlling, the incumbent ensures proper alignment between those functions in India, by strongly influencing decision making processes and performance, and fosters / drives local cross functional collaboration between all involved Finance and non-Finance functions.

The incumbent is part of the local India management team and the primary and holistic Finance business partner for the local India management and the country's Finance representative within EMEAI.

The role is highest in rank within Finance in India and as such is the go to person for all country and regional stakeholders and reports to the Sr. Director Finance EMEAI.

Main Responsibilities:

Accounting / Reporting / Compliance:

  • Ensure financial reporting is accurate, timely and relevant and provides direction on a forward-looking basis to support business decisions.
  • Coordinates the consolidation and/or reporting of actual results, including for GAAP and statutory purposes, through support of the regional shared service organization.
  • Ensures full reporting compliance and adherence to SOX, local statutory requirements, DHR policies and tax / legal requirements.
  • Builds and enforces a culture of compliance and fiscal responsibility.
  • Reviews and manages balance sheet and cash flows of the country.
  • Coordinates with external auditors to ensure support is provided to complete audit work; stays abreast of accounting changes.
  • Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.
  • Ensures that books of the company are accurate and complete; ensures all accounting transactions are recorded timely and accurately with a high standard of supporting documentation.
  • Reviews critical / material accounting entries performed by other functions and ensures compliance with USGAAP and tax requirements.
  • Keeps all (financial) procedures and finance structures up to date to accommodate for an efficient process and full compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Drive alignment and optimization of key month end processes & internal controls across EMEAI accounting in line with Danaher standards
  • Support stakeholders in and outside Finance through analysis of balance sheet accounts, profit and loss statements, and balance fluctuations from period to period
  • Reviews and approves reconciliations regarding Balance Sheet accounts, that include explain and adjust of the outstanding balances. Reviews critical / material balance sheet account reconciliations and associated journal entries for accuracy and completeness
  • Ensure that the accounting and tax documentation is updated and maintains the traceability of it in order to support the accounting and the taxes in proper way.
Business Controlling:
  • Provides leadership in improving financial results in the area of revenue, operating profit and working capital.
  • Influences key business decisions based on financial performance. Analyzes variations from forecasts and prior periods to provide accurate explanations for variances and support regional commercial leadership and operations managers in determining effective countermeasures.
  • Drives overall budgeting, forecasting and analysis with clear insights and decisions to support the corporate initiatives and regional growth.
  • Serves as finance expert and advisor for business critical projects including investments, cost analyses, etc. aligning and collaborating with the global finance and business organizations as needed.
  • Supports local leaders with ad hoc reporting to support many day-to-day business decisions for commercial and operations.
  • May manage key processes and metrics; forecasts, budgets, product line pricing and margins. Daily management of KPIs is a continuous improvement activity integral to this position.
  • Presents monthly / quarterly finance updates to the India Management team and at site Town Halls or within regional Finance.
Finance leadership:
  • Represents the Finance function locally towards the India Management team and all other internal and external stakeholders, e.g. functional Finance EMEAI leaders, external stakeholders such as auditors, banks, etc.
  • Aligns all different teams and functions through cross functional collaboration in the interest of the India business and compliance.
  • Strong advisor on all matters related to all India based Finance associates, including EMEAI Shared Services.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
  • Chartered Accountant
  • Minimum 15 years of experience, thereof minimum 3 years in a managerial function, overseeing holistically the entire Finance function in a company, including business finance / FP&A.
  • Experience in working in international and strongly matrix driven organization.
  • Deep knowledge in US GAAP accounting principles.
  • Able to coordinate and align activities performed by different functions and teams while keeping strong resilience.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills
  • Desirable experience in ERPs like Oracle.
  • Strong influencing skillsets and drive for alignment and consensus between independent functional agendas.
  • Customer service oriented (internal and external)
  • Ability to work under pressure and independently as a self-starter and a high degree of ability to define priorities.
  • Proactive and with a high sense of teamwork and strong stakeholder management skills / influencing skills
  • Focused on process improvement and change management
  • Critical attitude and independent mind, "looking for the issues", challenging views and opinions in a positive and constructive way
