Description The Controllership organization is responsible for the financial operations, reporting, and technical accounting advisory of American Express. The team works closely with all business units and core service provides to ensure financial integrity and a strong financial control environment. Strategic Enablement & Governance (“SEG”) is a vertical within Controllership that empowers Controllership teams to achieve organizational excellence through industry-leading governance, controls and innovation. The Director, Strategy & Transformation (“S&T”) will be part of the SEG organization and will be responsible for the identification, planning, and delivery of strategic initiatives that enable Controllership to achieve its objectives. These initiatives may include, but are not limited to – Defining technology and process transformation strategy, process simplification & improvement initiatives, merger & acquisition (“M&A”) integration and separation, legal entity simplification, and regulatory changes. The candidate will lead a team focused on the delivery and execution of these initiatives. Principal Accountabilities

• Lead delivery of large-scale initiatives that drive process transformation, improve control and compliance, and optimize the use of technology
• Act as Program and Relationship Lead for aforementioned initiatives
• Develop communications (e.g., presentations, scorecards, emails) to share progress of initiatives, garner sponsorship, and encourage adoption
• Identify proactive opportunities for improvement in quality and efficiency
• Act as leader within the broader SEG and S&T teams to expand skill-sharing, promote project learnings, and coach fellow colleagues

Minimum Qualifications

• 5+ years of proven experience in project management and delivery of large-scale programs requiring cross functional coordination; M&A experience, experience with Technologies as a key stakeholder, and/or PM accreditations a plus
• Bachelor’s Degree required, Masters/MBA a plus
• Run-it-like-you-own-it approach – ability to manage an initiative from definition to delivery
• Proven strategic thought leadership skills with ability to translate ideas into well-defined executable strategies and solutions
• Natural disposition to diagnose issues, mediate differing opinions, and converge on solutions
• Superior analytical skills – both quantitative and qualitative – coupled with an ability to make an assessment of a situation without always having the full picture
• Ability to influence without direct authority
• Consulting experience a plus
