The successful candidate will not only ensure compliance and audit readiness but will also embed a culture of proactive risk ownership, helping ECMX innovate safely while protecting customer trust and the integrity of Amex's marketing ecosystem.
Overview
Enterprise Communications & MarTech Experiences (ECMX) enables high-quality, innovative marketing through expert campaign consultation and execution, as well as the development of best-in-class products and processes that modernize Amex's end-to-end marketing ecosystem.
ECMX Global Business Enablement is a newly established team responsible for embedding and enhancing risk and control excellence across ECMX. This team centralizes management, guidance, and governance of ECMX's key operational risk and compliance activities -- including the Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA), Project Guardian, Offers, Benefits & Rewards (OBR) oversight, audit and exam management, and issues management.
The Director of Business Enablement will play a pivotal role in shaping and strengthening the first line of defense within Enterprise Communications & MarTech Experiences (ECMX). This leader will drive the development of a unified, proactive risk and control culture that enables ECMX to operate safely, efficiently, and in full alignment with enterprise standards. As part of the Global Business Enablement function, this role is designed to ensure that risk management is not an afterthought but a core part of how ECMX builds, delivers, and governs marketing operations globally. The Director will partner closely with Control Management, Compliance, and senior ECMX leaders to translate risk expectations into operationalized, sustainable processes that enhance control effectiveness and business performance.
Reporting to the Vice President, Global Business Enablement, this Director will lead a team of 2-4 managers and serve as the primary liaison with Control Management, Compliance, and ECMX's product and marketing operations leaders to ensure risks are effectively identified, mitigated, and governed.
Key Responsibilities
Lead ECMX's business enablement function for international marketing operations, ensuring first-line ownership of risk and control activities.
Oversee the execution of the RCSA process across all ECMX teams, ensuring alignment with enterprise risk frameworks, consistent application of scoring methodologies, and timely completion of assessments.
Manage end-to-end audit and exam readiness: coordinate responses to internal/external audit inquiries, draft and validate management action plans, and monitor closure evidence.
Provide strategic guidance to senior leadership on process risk issues, control design, and mitigation strategies across marketing platforms, data handling, and vendor integrations.
Partner with Control Management to interpret policy requirements and operationalize them within ECMX processes and products.
Drive control enhancement and standardization, ensuring new initiatives, technologies, and campaigns are designed with proactive risk management and compliance adherence.
Foster a culture of risk awareness and accountability by embedding operational risk management principles within day-to-day decision-making.
Act as a central hub for communication and governance, ensuring ECMX leadership remains informed of enterprise-wide risk priorities, emerging regulations, and audit expectations.
Develop and mentor a team of business enablement professionals, building subject matter expertise in operational risk, process design, and audit readiness.
Synthesize insights, themes, and trends from issues, incidents, and control testing results to identify improvement opportunities and share best practices across ECMX and partner organizations.
Required Qualifications
5-10 years of experience in operational risk management, process management, compliance, or control execution within a complex global organization (preferably marketing or servicing operations).
Deep understanding of the operational risk lifecycle, RCSA methodology, control design principles, and issue management processes.
Demonstrated experience building and leading high-performing teams with 3+ direct reports.
Proven ability to translate policy and risk requirements into actionable business processes and scalable controls.
Strong project and change management skills, with the ability to execute multiple strategic initiatives simultaneously.

High learning agility, resilience, and the ability to lead through change in a dynamic environment.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail and a bias for action.
Strong partnership skills with a collaborative approach across multiple stakeholder groups (Control Management, Compliance, Legal, Technology, and Marketing).
Preferred Qualifications
Background in marketing operations, data governance, or technology risk management.
