Job Description

A

Welder

is responsible for joining metal parts together using various welding techniques, ensuring structural integrity and safety. They work with blueprints, specifications, and different materials to create or repair metal structures and equipment.

Key Roles of a Welder



Reading and Interpreting Blueprints

Understand and follow technical drawings, sketches, and specifications. Determine the materials and welding techniques required for the job.

Material Preparation

Measure, cut, and shape metal components. Clean and prepare surfaces for welding (removing rust, grease, etc.).

Performing Welding Operations

Use various welding techniques such as: MIG (Metal Inert Gas) TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) Stick Welding (Shielded Metal Arc Welding - SMAW) Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) Adjust welding machines to correct settings. Weld metal components in flat, vertical, horizontal, and overhead positions.

Ensuring Quality and Accuracy

Inspect completed welds for quality and accuracy. Identify and fix any defects or imperfections. Perform stress tests and ensure structural strength.

Safety Compliance

Follow safety guidelines and protocols. Wear protective equipment (helmet, gloves, goggles, and flame-resistant clothing). Ensure proper ventilation and safe handling of welding gases and materials.

Equipment Maintenance

Maintain and repair welding machines and tools. Report any malfunctions or damage to equipment.

Collaborating with Team Members

Work closely with engineers, fabricators, and other team members. Communicate effectively to ensure project requirements are met.

Record Keeping and Reporting

Document welding processes and materials used. Maintain records of completed projects and repairs.
