Roles and Responsibilities of a Hospital Dietitian
1.
Nutritional Assessment
Evaluate patients' nutritional status through medical history, lab results, physical exams, and dietary intake.
Identify malnutrition, deficiencies, or risk of complications due to improper nutrition.
2.
Diet Planning and Management
Develop
individualized nutrition care plans
based on diagnosis (e.g., diabetes, kidney disease, cancer, gastrointestinal disorders).
Modify hospital diets (e.g., low-sodium, high-protein, gluten-free) to meet specific medical needs.
Coordinate with food service to ensure appropriate meals are provided.
3.
Patient Education and Counseling
Educate patients and their families about proper nutrition related to their condition.
Provide discharge planning support with diet advice for home care.
4.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration
Work closely with doctors, nurses, speech therapists, and pharmacists as part of the healthcare team.
Participate in patient rounds and clinical meetings.
5.
Monitoring and Evaluation
Track patient progress and adjust diet plans as needed.
Document dietary interventions and outcomes in medical records.
6.
Food Service Supervision
Oversee kitchen operations to ensure food safety, quality, and compliance with medical diets.
Develop menus that meet patient needs while adhering to hospital policies and budget.
7.
Policy Development and Training
Help develop hospital nutrition protocols and guidelines.
Train hospital staff (e.g., nurses, food service workers) on nutrition-related practices.
8.
Support in Specialized Units
Provide nutrition care in
ICUs, pediatric wards, oncology, renal units
, etc., where tailored nutrition support is critical.
May be involved in
enteral and parenteral nutrition
(tube feeding and IV nutrition).
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹25,000.00 per month
