The Dietician is responsible for assessing nutritional needs, developing individualized nutrition plans, and providing evidence-based dietary counseling to patients. The role supports physicians, nurses, and other healthcare staff to ensure optimal patient recovery, disease management, and overall health through proper nutrition.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Patient Assessment & Care
Conduct comprehensive nutritional assessments, including medical history, lab values, and dietary habits.
Develop individualized nutrition care plans tailored to patient needs and clinical conditions.
Monitor patient progress and adjust dietary plans as needed.
2. Clinical Collaboration
Work closely with physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams in patient care rounds.
Interpret and communicate nutrition-related lab results to clinical staff.
Document nutritional diagnoses, interventions, and progress notes in electronic medical records (EMR).
3. Dietary Planning & Patient Education
Educate patients and caregivers on dietary modifications for conditions such as diabetes, renal disease, cardiovascular disease, gastrointestinal disorders, and obesity.
Provide counseling for special diets (low-sodium, renal, diabetic, high-protein, etc.).
Support patients in understanding meal plans, portion control, and long-term lifestyle changes.
4. Food Service Oversight (Hospital Setting)
Collaborate with food service managers to ensure therapeutic diets are accurately prepared and delivered.
Participate in menu planning to meet nutritional standards and patient preferences.
Ensure food safety and sanitation practices are maintained according to hospital policies.
5. Quality Improvement & Compliance
Participate in quality assurance, audits, and accreditation activities.
Maintain compliance with hospital policies, healthcare regulations, and nutritional standards.
Stay updated with current research and best practices in clinical nutrition.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or related field.
Experience:
Minimum 1+ years of experience in hospital /healthcare domain.
Soft Skills:
- Strong knowledge of medical nutrition therapy (MNT).
- Excellent communication and counseling skills.
- Ability to interpret clinical data and lab reports.
- Team-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Proficiency in EMR systems preferred.
