The Dietary Operations Coordinator acts as the central link between the dieticians, cooks, and pantry staff to ensure smooth, timely, and accurate delivery of meals across the hospital. This role requires strong organizational skills, proactive communication, and a hands-on approach to resolving service issues.
Key Responsibilities: Coordination
& Communication
Serve as the point of contact between dieticians, kitchen staff, and pantry teams.
Relay dietary instructions, special orders, and patient-specific requirements from dieticians to cooks and pantry staff.
Ensure department phone is used effectively for real-time updates and avoid over-reliance on dieticians for communication.
Meal Service Oversight
Monitor meal preparation timelines and ensure food is ready for dispatch.
Confirm that pantry staff have checked trolleys and special orders before leaving the kitchen.
Ensure cooks are checking food distribution during meal services to handle shortages or adjustments.
Operational Support
Record maintenance of FIFO for perishable and non-perishable items.
Store orders to be placed in co-ordination with Head Cook.
Conducting floor-wise inventory checks of pantry crockery and cutlery, followed by coordination with the respective floor dietician for review and reconciliation
Track patient census changes and communicate necessary food quantity adjustments to the kitchen.
Assist in resolving issues like missing food items, incorrect portions, or delayed deliveries.
Maintain logs of service gaps, complaints, and corrective actions.
Monitor patient shift-outs and ensure any special dietary requests are transferred to the current pantry accordingly
Help with follow up of maintenance issues.
Keep record of preventive maintenance.
Hygiene & Compliance
Ensure all teams follow food safety, hygiene, and hospital protocols.
Support dieticians in conducting audits and implementing improvements.
Qualifications and Experience
Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Hospitality Management, or Food Service Operations.
5-8 years of experience in hospital dietary services, food service coordination, or kitchen operations.
Preferable prior exposure to working with dieticians, cooks, and pantry staff in a healthcare setting.
Knowledge
Familiarity with dietary protocols and food safety standards.
Skills
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to multitask and manage time-sensitive operations.
Problem-solving mind-set and team leadership qualities.
