Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

Sorting and Grading:

Sort

gemstones and diamonds

based on size, shape, color, clarity, and overall quality. Classify stones according to company standards and client specifications. Segregate high-quality and medium-quality stones for different processing stages.

Quality Inspection:

Inspect gemstones and diamonds under magnification (using

10x loupe or microscope

) to check for inclusions, cracks, or damages. Verify the symmetry, polish, and finishing quality of diamonds. Ensure only approved stones move to cutting, polishing, or setting.

Measurement and Calibration:

Measure stones accurately using

vernier calipers, sieves, or diamond scales

. Ensure uniformity in grading and maintain accuracy in size and weight.

Record Maintenance:

Maintain detailed records of sorted gemstones and diamonds -- including quality grade, shape, size, and quantity. Update sorting reports and hand over the data to the Production or QC department.

Coordination with Departments:

Work closely with

cutting, polishing, jewelry setting, and QC teams

to ensure a smooth workflow. Report any discrepancies in stone quality or count to the supervisor immediately.

Handling and Safety:

Handle all gemstones and diamonds with utmost care to prevent mix-ups, loss, or damage. Follow company protocols for stone handling, counting, and storage.

Use of Tools and Equipment:

Use magnifying loupe, tweezer, scoop, and stone papers properly during sorting. Maintain and clean tools regularly for accurate inspection.

Continuous Improvement and Knowledge:

Stay updated about new grading parameters or quality standards in gemstones and diamonds. Participate in training sessions to improve accuracy and consistency in assorting work.
