About Sub Zero:

Sub Zero is the leading manufacturer of refrigerated truck bodies in India. The company has a joint venture with Schmitz Cargobull (Germany) who is Europes market leader for reefer trailers.

Sub Zero established in 2015 has its main manufacturing plant in Chakan, Pune and produces about 1500 reefer trucks annually. The team comprises of about 40 office staff and 100+ workers.

Job Title: Design Engineer - Manufacturing (Pune Factory)

Location: Chakan, Pune

Reporting to: Head - Design & Engineering / COO

Role Overview

The Design Engineer will be responsible for creating accurate and production-ready drawings for refrigerated truck bodies, panels, and related assemblies. The role involves close coordination with production, sales, and quality teams to ensure designs are manufacturable, cost-effective, and delivered on time. The engineer will also contribute to new product development and work alongside German engineering teams on select projects.

Key Responsibilities

1. Production & GA Drawings

Prepare detailed GA drawings, sub-assembly drawings, and shop drawings for day-to-day production.

Ensure drawings are released on time to support uninterrupted manufacturing.

Revise drawings based on production feedback and change requests.

2. BOM & Documentation

Create and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) aligned with drawings.

Support costing and procurement teams with technical inputs.

Ensure proper version control and documentation discipline.

3. Manufacturing Support

Coordinate with production teams to resolve design-related issues on the shop floor.

Ensure designs follow design-for-manufacturing (DFM) principles.

Support quality and inspection teams with technical clarifications.

4. New Product Development

Assist in the design and development of new products, variants, and prototypes.

Participate in testing, validation, and continuous improvement activities.

Contribute to cost-reduction and standardization initiatives.

5. Global Collaboration

Work on projects involving collaboration with German engineering teams.

Interpret and adapt international designs, standards, and best practices to Indian manufacturing conditions.

Support technical discussions, documentation exchange, and design localization.

Qualifications & Skills

BE / BTech / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (or related field).

1-4 years of experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment (freshers with strong fundamentals may also be considered).

Proficiency in AutoCAD / Autodesk Inventor / similar CAD tools.

Strong understanding of fabrication, sheet metal, panels, and assemblies.

Working knowledge of BOMs, drawings standards, and tolerances.

Good communication skills and willingness to work cross-functionally.
