The Design Manager oversees the development, coordination, and execution of engineering design projects using AutoCAD and SolidWorks. This role ensures that all designs meet technical specifications, quality standards, and project timelines. The Design Manager leads a team of designers/engineers, collaborates closely with cross-functional departments, and drives continuous improvement in design processes and documentation.
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign & Technical Leadership
Lead and manage the design team in developing 2D drawings and 3D models using
AutoCAD and SolidWorks
.
Review and approve detailed engineering drawings, assemblies, and BOMs.
Ensure designs comply with industry standards, safety guidelines, and company quality requirements.
Solve complex design challenges and provide technical support to the team.
Project Management
Plan, schedule, and coordinate design activities to meet project deadlines.
Collaborate with engineering, production, procurement, and quality teams to align design outputs with project needs.
Monitor project progress and report status to senior management.
Process Improvement
Develop and maintain design standards, templates, libraries, and best practices.
Implement CAD data management and version control processes (PDM/PLM).
Identify opportunities for design optimization, cost reduction, and innovation.
Team Management
Mentor, train, and guide Junior/Senior Designers and Engineers.
Conduct performance reviews and support skills development.
Promote collaboration and maintain a high-performing design team environment.
Documentation & Compliance
Ensure accurate documentation of design files, revisions, technical reports, and specifications.
Work with manufacturing and quality teams to support prototyping, testing, and validation.
Maintain compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
QualificationsEducation
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or related field (preferred).
Experience
8-15 years of experience in engineering design
Strong hands-on expertise in
AutoCAD
(2D drafting) and
SolidWorks
(3D modeling, assemblies, simulation preferred).
Technical Skills
Proficiency in CAD modeling, technical drawings, tolerances, and GD&T.
Knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, fabrication, sheet metal, plastics, etc.).
Experience with
PDM/PLM systems
(e.g., SolidWorks PDM).
Strong understanding of engineering calculations, material selection, and product lifecycle.
Soft Skills
Excellent leadership and team management skills.
Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
Certification in SolidWorks (CSWP/CSWE) or AutoCAD.
Experience in [industry-specific: e.g., HVAC, automotive, machinery, construction, etc.]
