Position Summary

Design Manager position is a seconded position to the project execution office of TATA Projects Ltd. and will be responsible for overall design management of EPC-2 package, which consists of airside and landsite developments including runway, taxiway, apron, site drainage, roads, utilities, all buildings including Client\xe2\x80\x99s Operational Office but excluding Passenger Terminal Building (EPC-1).

DM position reports to Project Director (EPC-2 package) and Chief Design Manager and has a single point of accountability to deliver the design of the Project in accordance with the Project commitments/requirements.

DM shall have a minimum 10 years of experience in the design/ design management of major airport projects that includes airside/landside design, airfield works, terminal building, utilities, infrastructure works, ancillary & utility buildings.

Major Responsibilities

Strategy & Development:
  • Create and implement best practice engineering vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve business performance.
  • Ensure that engineering strategies and processes are in place to meet business objectives and operational needs in terms of price, quality and delivery targets and which enables the company to function and compete effectively in the market
  • Evaluate the challenges faced by the project and take action to mitigate risks and develop opportunities.
  • Take ownership of the engineering policy, guidelines and any associated documents
General and Task Management:
  • Assisting projects with value engineering and financial control of contracts during construction stage
  • Develop planning and prioritise processes to ensure that multi-disciplinary resource including consultants are well aligned to maximise delivery of projects.
  • Keep track of the projected deliverables versus the issued deliverables in their different stages (Initial Design, Design Development, and Good for Construction)
  • Identify scope gaps among design consultants and third parties, recommend management for possible solutions.
  • Operate a process for safe selection of external contractors. In conjunction with the Head of Purchasing ensure all external contracts are regularly reviewed to ensure best value
  • Report on Engineering Key Performance Indicators on a regular basis to the Senior Management team.
People Management:
  • Provide leadership to departments under control and coach, mentor and develop direct reports and manage a high performing team that delivers continuous improvement, added value and cost reductions.
  • Set department objectives and monitor ongoing progress and performance.
  • Ensure that the function operates in accordance with any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff and visitors.
  • Responsible for developing the appropriate organisational structure, resource plans and culture to support the business objectives and customer deliverables.
  • Provide leadership and coordination to achieve the operational and financial metrics within their areas of responsibility and succeed in their roles.
  • Complete regular performance reviews.
Relationship Management:
  • Work collaboratively, negotiate and engage with key stakeholders to facilitate delivery and compliance with the engineering strategy.
  • Appraising and interpreting client requirements to ensure that technical, legislative and commercial aspects are delivered on each project.
  • Leverage appropriate external contract resource as required to support projects and programmes and ensure that all required compliance projects are completed in line with regulatory expectations and that the top priority business projects are executed.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Educated to graduate degree in a relevant Engineering/Architectural discipline or in a branch of engineering appropriate to the nature of the Works related to airports with a minimum 15 to 20 years of overall experience.
  • Fellow or Chartered Member of an industry related Professional Body (will be preferred).
  • Demonstrable experience of leading an engineering function with a proven track record in strategic engineering leadership delivering effective engineering strategies, policies, processes and systems
  • Proven project management and supplier experience
  • Experience of operating and influencing at a strategic level
  • Proven leadership and management skills with the ability to optimise team performance and development.
  • Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to engage, negotiate and manage key stakeholders and suppliers.
  • Strong and confident negotiator with the ability to negotiate at all levels and open to changes.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities including influential skills.
  • Results orientated with ability to plan and deliver against project deadlines.
  • Commercially and financially astute with experience of managing budgets.
  • An appreciation of and an ability to positively resolve issues arising from different cultures and self-motivated.
  • Excellent communication skills in English to lead the subconsultants and interface with various entities.
