Design & Estimation Engineer
Job Summary:
The Design & Estimation Engineer is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, developing technical designs and shop drawings, and supporting the project team in delivering competitive proposals and high-quality solutions. This role bridges the gap between design intent and cost-effective project delivery, ensuring that client requirements are fully understood and met.
Key Responsibilities:
Design & Engineering
Prepare conceptual, schematic, and detailed designs based on client requirements and project specifications.
Develop technical shop drawings, detailed joinery drawings, and construction details for approval and production.
Coordinate with architects, consultants, and project teams to ensure design feasibility and compliance with standards.
Review material specifications, propose alternatives where required, and support value engineering initiatives.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date design documentation and drawing logs.
Estimation & Costing
Prepare detailed cost estimates, budgets, and BOQs for interior fit-out, joinery, or construction projects.
Analyze project drawings, specifications, and tender documents to determine scope and requirements.
Conduct quantity take-offs and material analysis to support accurate pricing.
Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitiveness.
Support in preparing tender submissions, commercial offers, and technical proposals.
Technical Support & Coordination
Support project managers and site teams by clarifying design and cost-related queries.
Attend site surveys and meetings as required to gather technical information and validate project scope.
Assist in preparing presentations and mock-ups for client approvals.
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Interior Design, or a related field.
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in design and estimation for interior fit-out, joinery, or construction projects.
Strong understanding of interior finishes, materials, and production methods.
Proven ability to prepare accurate BOQs and cost estimates.
Skills:
Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, or other 3D design software; familiarity with Revit or similar BIM tools is a plus.
Advanced knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Strong analytical and numerical skills.
Attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines.
Excellent communication and coordination skills.
Other Requirements:
Ability to visit project sites as needed.
Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach.
