Mechanical & Piping Design

Position Title: Design Engineer - Water Treatment & Projects

Department: Engineering & Design

Location: Chennai

Reporting To: Engineering Manager / Project Manager

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled

Design Engineer

with expertise in

Water & Wastewater Treatment Systems

. The role involves preparing

PFDs, P&IDs, mechanical and piping designs, and detailed engineering documentation

for water treatment and industrial automation projects. The engineer will work closely with the project, procurement, and production teams to ensure effective design, smooth execution, and compliance with client specifications and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

Process & Design Engineering

Develop

Process Flow Diagrams (PFD)

and

Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID)

for water treatment plants (ETP, STP, RO, MBR, ZLD, etc.). Perform

process calculations

for sizing pumps, blowers, tanks, and pipelines. Select appropriate treatment technologies, equipment, and instruments based on project requirements.

Mechanical & Piping Design

Prepare

GA drawings, piping layouts, isometrics, and equipment arrangement drawings

. Carry out

piping design calculations

(flow, pressure drop, sizing, material selection). Develop

fabrication drawings

for tanks, skids, and pressure vessels. Ensure designs are compliant with ASME, IS, ASTM, and other relevant standards.

Documentation & Coordination

Prepare

BOMs (Bill of Materials)

, equipment specifications, and datasheets. Support procurement by providing

technical specifications and vendor evaluations

. Assist project teams during

installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting

. Coordinate with clients, consultants, and internal teams for design approvals.

Innovation & Development

Support in

prototype development

and new product designs. Implement

value engineering and cost optimization

in design. Ensure

sustainability, safety, and reliability

in all designs.

Key Skills & Competencies

Strong knowledge of

water and wastewater treatment processes

(ETP, STP, RO, MBR, MBBR, ZLD, etc.). Proficiency in

AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent 3D CAD tools

. Experience with

process design software

(e.g., Aspen, Hysys, or equivalent) - added advantage. Familiarity with

piping design codes & standards

(ASME, IS, ANSI, API). Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills. Ability to work collaboratively across design, project, and production teams.

Qualifications

B.E./B.Tech/M.E./M.Tech

in Mechanical / Chemical / Environmental Engineering (or equivalent).

3-7 years

of experience in

water treatment design & engineering

(preferably industrial/municipal projects).
Experience in

designing P&ID, PFD, piping layouts, and mechanical systems

for treatment plants.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹35,000.00 per month
