The Design Engineer - NPD is responsible for designing and developing precision components, tools, and assemblies as part of the New Product Development process. The role involves converting concepts into detailed CAD models, preparing technical documentation, supporting prototyping, and ensuring manufacturable and cost-effective designs. The position works closely with Production, Quality, and R&D teams to deliver customer requirements efficiently.
Develop 2D/3D CAD models, detailed drawings, and specifications.
Convert customer inputs, sketches, and concepts into engineering designs.
Apply GD&T, tolerances, and engineering standards.
Ensure designs meet functional, aesthetic, and manufacturability requirements.
2. New Product Development (NPD) Activities
Support the full NPD lifecycle: concept ? design ? prototype ? testing ? approval.
Participate in prototyping, trials, and design validation.
Prepare design calculations, material selection, and feasibility analysis.
3. Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work with Production to ensure manufacturability and machining feasibility.
Coordinate with Quality for inspections, tolerance checks, and validations.
Provide technical support to Procurement and suppliers for tooling and materials.
4. Design Improvement & Cost Optimization
Identify opportunities for design simplification and cost savings.
Implement DFM/DFA principles for efficient production.
Suggest material or process optimizations based on customer and internal feedback.
5. Documentation & Compliance
Prepare and maintain technical drawings, BOMs, and engineering change notes.
Ensure compliance with ISO, AS9100, and customer-specific requirements.
Maintain proper revision control and documentation discipline.
Qualifications & ExperienceEducation
Diploma / BE / BTech in Mechanical / Production Engineering.
Experience
2-5 years of hands-on experience in design or NPD.
Experience with machined components, fixtures, gauges, tools, or precision engineering is preferred.
Good communication and teamwork.
Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
