who can design sheet metal parts, assemblies, and fabricated structures. Your main job is to create accurate 3D models and technical drawings that can be easily manufactured. You will work with the production, quality, and procurement teams to ensure the product is made correctly, on time, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities :
Design & Development
Create 3D models and 2D drawings for sheet metal parts, brackets, enclosures, cabinets, frames, and fabricated structures.
Apply sheet metal design rules like bend allowances, bend deductions, K-factor, and material thickness.
Design parts that are easy to manufacture, assemble, and maintain.
Prepare BOM (Bill of Materials) for each design.
Manufacturing Support
Coordinate with fabrication teams (laser cutting, bending, machining, welding).
Provide design clarification to production and quality teams.
Suggest design changes to improve manufacturability and reduce waste.
Support prototype development and testing.
Quality & Documentation
Ensure drawings follow industry standards (GD&T, tolerances, welding symbols).
Check and revise drawings based on feedback.
Maintain design files, revision history, and proper documentation.
Cross-Functional Coordination
Work closely with production, quality, purchase, and sales teams.
Understand customer requirements and translate them into design.
Provide technical support during customer meetings if needed.
Skills Required
Strong knowledge of sheet metal fundamentals.
Hands-on experience with CAD tools: SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, Creo, or similar.
Understanding of fabrication processes:
Laser cutting
Plasma cutting
Bending & forming
Welding (MIG/TIG/Spot)
Powder coating / finishing
Knowledge of GD&T, tolerances, and production standards.
Good analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to work independently and in a team.
Qualifications
Diploma / BE / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
1-3 years of experience in sheet metal or fabrication design
Familiarity with manufacturing environments is a plus.
