Job Description

We are looking for a skilled

Design Engineer

with 1-2 years of hands-on experience in

sheet metal design and fabrication

to join our engineering team. The primary responsibility will be to create detailed

3D models, 2D drawings, and flat patterns

using

CATIA V5/V6 or SolidWorks

, ensuring manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

Develop detailed 3D models and assemblies of sheet metal components and enclosures using

CATIA or SolidWorks

. Generate accurate 2D manufacturing drawings, flat patterns, and bend tables with proper tolerances and GD&T. Perform design for manufacturability (DFM) analysis specific to sheet metal processes (laser cutting, punching, bending, welding, PEM insertion, powder coating, etc.). Collaborate with fabrication shop floor teams to resolve design-related issues and implement improvements. Convert customer requirements/sketches into production-ready designs. Update and maintain engineering documentation (BOMs, revision control, ECOs). Support prototyping, first-article inspection, and production ramp-up. Work with project managers and production teams to meet deadlines and quality standards.
Required Skills & Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, or related field.

1-2 years of proven experience in sheet metal design and fabrication

(freshers with strong internship/project experience may be considered).

Proficiency in CATIA V5/V6 (preferred) or SolidWorks

- specifically Sheet Metal, Part Design, Assembly, and Drafting workbenches. Strong understanding of sheet metal manufacturing processes, material selection (MS, SS, Aluminum, GI), bend allowances, K-factor, forming limitations, and weld symbols. Good knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) as per ASME Y14.5. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and customer specifications. Experience creating flat patterns and DXF files for CNC laser/punch machines is a must. Familiarity with PDM/PLM systems is a plus.
