The Head of Design (HOD) will be responsible for leading the design department and driving innovation in machine and product development. The role includes strategic planning, team leadership, technical oversight, and cross-functional coordination to ensure high-quality, on-time delivery of engineering solutions. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in designing various types of industrial and custom machines.
Key Responsibilities: Leadership & Strategy
Develop and execute the design and technology roadmap aligned with the company's vision.
Lead and mentor a team of 10+ design engineers, ensuring high-performance and technical excellence.
Allocate resources effectively and maintain project schedules and timelines.
Project & Program Management
Manage the full project lifecycle including budgeting, planning, design reviews, and customer presentations.
Approve engineering documentation and ensure compliance with internal standards and industry requirements.
Take ownership from concept to production, including final quality checks.
Technical Expertise
Extensive experience in designing various machines
such as:
Special Purpose Machines (SPM)
Assembly and Testing Equipment
Custom Automation Systems
Lifting and Handling Equipment
Hydraulic and Pneumatic Machines
Sheet Metal and Fabrication-Based Machines
Utilize
SolidWorks
and other CAD software to create 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings.
Conduct structural analysis (FEA), engineering calculations, and component validation.
Ensure optimal integration of mechanical systems with control and communication protocols.
Cross-Functional Coordination
Collaborate with R&D, production, purchase, and quality teams to bring designs to market.
Work with vendors and customers to finalize machine concepts and requirements.
Oversee prototyping and support manufacturing during the product realization phase.
Process & Quality Management
Manage design documentation including BoMs, revision control, and design specifications, reverse engineering and Eplan.
Drive continuous improvement, process optimization, and cost reduction initiatives.
Conduct detailed design reviews and root cause analysis for engineering issues.
Required Skills & Knowledge:
Strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing.
Proficiency in GD&T, heat treatment, welding standards, and industrial design practices.
In-depth knowledge of hydraulic/pneumatic systems and automation technology.
Effective leadership, planning, and communication skills.
