JOB DESCRIPTION - MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER
Location: Vadodara, Gujrat, India
Reporting to: Engineering Manager
Job Statement
Mechanical engineer will be required to perform detail calculations to design systems and components that meet needs and requirements. Will also be required to make design layouts, drawings, and write bills of material. Must have the ability to perform efficiently and accurately on CAD and utilize FEA software to complete designs. Must be able to read and utilize information from diagrams, previous designs, and vendor drawings. Ability to check mechanical drawings and their bills of material for completeness, accuracy, neatness, and conformance to recognized drafting practices, company policies, procedures and standards. Must be able to perform calculations to figure loads / stresses with structural steel.
Main activities:

  • Layout development of crushing plants, classification, and belt conveyors for the mining industry.
  • Design of Crushing plants including definitions of Lay Out of Hoppers, Transfers, maintenance spaces based on criteria and standards, considering the characteristics of the mineral to be processed such as granulometry, density, abrasiveness, and accommodation angle.
  • Sizing and selection of components and mechanical calculations applied to mineral processing equipment and facilities.
  • Application of safety, well-being, and ergonomics criteria in projects, including OSHA standards.
  • Basic definition of structural components and acting in the interface with the structural calculation department, seeking to define the best technical-economical alternative for projects already in the initial phases of the projects.
  • Development of drafts and conceptual design for the development of proposals.
  • Basic design development at executive level for detailing.
  • Development of 3D design at the coordination level, mainly using AutoCad 3D, Inventor 3D and Tekla steel software.
  • Development of integrated Layout.
  • Meetings with customers, field survey, supervision of assembly and testing when required.
  • Participation in meetings with customers, suppliers, and other Metso Outotec units to resolve issues related to the project in which it is working, providing clarifications, and addressing technical issues.
  • Travel for training purposes and/or interfaces with customers, suppliers and during critical equipment delivery stages.
Main Requirements:
  • Graduated in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Extensive experience in detailed design and layout development of crushing plants, classification and belt conveyors for the mining industry.
  • Hands on experience in detail design of bulk material handling equipment (Stackers, Reclaimers, Belt Conveyors, Wagon Tippler, Apron Feeder etc.).
  • Skill in plant design and Lay Out definitions of Hoppers, Transfers, maintenance spaces based on criteria, standards, and characteristics of the mineral to be processed such as granulometry, density, abrasiveness, and accommodation angle.
  • Deep knowledge and experience in the application of safety, well-being, and ergonomics criteria in projects, including standards, customer design criteria in addition to OSHAS standards.
  • Desirable previous experience and knowledge of general level applications for mining equipment such as Crushers, Screens, Conveyors and Belt Feeders, sampling systems.
  • Ability to design and select components, mechanical calculations, and development of analytical calculations
  • General knowledge about the CEMA standard.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic systems is an advantage.
  • Ability in the basic definition of structural components and basic knowledge of the AISC standard and its application to structural projects for the mining industry.
  • Ability to develop drafts and conceptual design to develop proposals
  • Ability to develop basic design at executive level for detailing.
  • Indispensable skill in developing 3D design using mainly AutoCad 3D, Inventor 3D and Tekla platforms. Ability to use Navisworks, Plant Design or PDMS will be considered as important differentiators.
  • Experience with DEM simulations as well as interpreting their results will be a differential.
  • Desirable experience with processes related to iron ore, copper, bauxite, and gold.
  • It will be a differential, extensive knowledge in procedures, specifications, engineering practices and previous experience acquired in Capital Goods supply companies with global clients in the Mining segment.
  • Skills in the following tools: Office Package, Power Point, and SAP (Desirable)
  • Languages: Advanced English and Spanish technical level, with the advanced level being different
  • Availability for travel throughout the national and international territory, including short term and extended stays
  • Min. 3 & Max. 8 years of Engineering experience is required
