Position: Design Development & Operations Manager

Department: Metal Division - Pallets, Skids & Trolley Manufacturing

Experience Required: 7-8 Years (Metal Industry)

1. Job Purpose

To manage the complete design development, RFQ-to-final-quotation, and operations for manufacturing metal pallets, skids, and trolleys. Responsible for new product design, costing, production planning, quality control, and ensuring timely delivery to customers.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Design & Product Development

Develop and lead designs for:

Metal Pallets (standard & custom)

Metal Skids

Material Handling Trolleys

Create 2D & 3D drawings, fabrication layouts, and BOMs using AutoCAD/SolidWorks.

Design load-bearing structures with correct material thickness, support members, and weld joints.

Improve existing designs for better durability, cost efficiency, and faster manufacturing.

Work with customers for technical discussions and design approvals.

Develop prototype units and perform functional testing.

B. RFQ to Final Quotation Management

Review customer RFQs and understand structural & functional requirements.

Conduct feasibility analysis and identify required design modifications.

Prepare accurate costing including:

Material (MS sheets, pipes, sections)

Welding, cutting, bending, fabrication

Hardware, wheels, paint/powder coating

Labor & overheads

Prepare professional technical & commercial quotations.

Support sales team during price negotiation and provide technical clarifications.

Ensure final quotation is aligned with company costing guidelines and profitability targets.

C. Production & Operations Management

Oversee daily production of pallets, skids & trolleys including:

Laser cutting / shearing

Bening / rolling

Welding & fabrication

Assembly & finishing

Powder coating and inspection

Plan production schedules and allocate manpower.

Monitor shop-floor performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement improvements.

Ensure production targets, delivery timelines, and quality standards are achieved.

Coordinate with procurement for timely availability of raw materials and components.

D. Quality, Safety & Compliance

Ensure all products meet structural strength, dimensional accuracy, and load-capacity standards.

Set and enforce quality checkpoints at each fabrication stage.

Reduce rejection, rework, and manufacturing errors.

Ensure compliance with workplace safety, welding standards, and ISO guidelines.

Maintain all documentation for quality inspections and audits.

E. Team Leadership & Reporting

Lead and supervise design engineers, welders, fabricators, and assembly staff.

Train teams on design standards, fabrication techniques, and safety practices.

Prepare daily/weekly/monthly reports for management.

Drive Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, and continuous improvement initiatives.

3. Required Skills & Competencies

Strong expertise in metal pallet, skid, and trolley fabrication.

Excellent command of AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and engineering drawing.

Experience in costing, RFQs, and preparing final quotations.

Strong knowledge of welding, bending, cutting, and load-bearing design.

Leadership, production planning, and team management skills.

Good communication for customer interaction and technical explanation.

4. Qualification

Diploma / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

7-8 years experience in metal fabrication (preferably pallets/skids/trolleys).

Experience in costing & quotation preparation is essential.

5. Reporting To

Operations Head / Plant Head

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ?500,000.00 - ?700,000.00 per year
