The Design Engineer - Sheet Metal Manufacturing is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing sheet metal components and assemblies in accordance with customer requirements, manufacturing feasibility, and quality standards. The role requires strong proficiency in
CATIA
for 3D modeling, detailing, and drafting, along with a solid understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes, materials, and tolerances.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Development
Create 3D models, assemblies, and 2D manufacturing drawings using
CATIA
(Sheet Metal Design & Part Design modules).
Design sheet metal components such as enclosures, brackets, panels, frames, cabinets, and structural parts.
Develop flat patterns, bend tables, and forming details suitable for fabrication and assembly.
Ensure designs comply with customer specifications, applicable standards, and internal design guidelines.
Engineering & Manufacturing Support
Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles to optimize cost, quality, and production efficiency.
Collaborate with production, quality, and procurement teams to ensure manufacturability of designs.
Provide technical support during fabrication, bending, welding, and assembly stages.
Address design-related issues, deviations, and engineering change requests (ECR/ECO).
Documentation & Standards
Prepare and maintain detailed engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation.
Ensure drawings include correct dimensions, tolerances, GD&T, material specifications, and surface finish requirements.
Maintain revision control and ensure proper documentation as per ISO 9001 or company QMS requirements.
Continuous Improvement
Participate in value engineering and cost reduction initiatives.
Support continuous improvement activities related to product design and manufacturing processes.
Learn and apply new design methods, tools, and industry best practices.
